Carolyn Sherif Award Address: Some Life Lessons
This paper recounts some of the lessons I have learned from African Americans, including those I taught at Howard University, from research, from my struggle for pay equity, from my experiences with leadership organizing a community event, and from having cancer. I do not think any of these “lessons” are unique to me. I hope that sharing them will be helpful to others. Many of these lessons are about empowerment and acceptance

This issue reflects the growing awareness of “shibboleths and lacunae (Laws, 1969)” in the study of women, and includes some of the recent attempts to correct these. Determinants of Occupational Role Innovation Among College Women 1
This study of 200 senior college women investigates the relationship between non‐sextypical occupational choices (Role Innovation) and background, personality, and college experience. Role Innovators are more autonomous, individualistic, and motivated by internally imposed demands to perform to capacity.
