Rights in action
This study explores how children’s rights are enacted in preschool teaching practices during an action research project, through the entanglements of practitioners, children, digital technologies and pedagogical context. The theoretical framework emanates from sociomaterial perspectives, and the empirical material consists of group discussions from action research sessions spanning over nine months. The main results reveal three strands in the pr…
Reclaiming the Nordic model of education
In the postdigital society and education systems, humans have become fabricated hybrids of organism and machine – they have become cyborgs. Ignoring the affective dimension of becoming, however, digitalized environments give way to an ethical and conceptual vacuum, wherein children risk being sacrificed at the altar of development. Reclaiming the Nordic model of education, the authors therefore put postdigital literature in conversation with post…
Children's rights in digital activities
Digital resources permeate today's society and are everyday objects in many children's lives. As there is a need for more studies about children's rights concerning issues of protection as well as influence and participation in relation to digital resources, this article explores preschool practitioners’ reflections on children's rights in the context of their digital teaching practices. We examine possibilities and constraints in practice, using…
Immigrant Women Students in Higher Education
Higher education is influenced by ongoing expansion and transformation due to increasingly diverse students, including immigrant students. Former studies of immigrant women students in higher education tend to focus on constraints for this student group. However, this integrative literature review focuses on both constraints, facilitators and health, with the ambition to contribute with a more multifaceted image of these students. The aim is to p…
Discourses in Swedish preschool music teachers’ conversations
In recent years, Swedish preschool has been subjected to significant changes. As there is a lack of studies examining how teachers in music rhetorically position themselves within this context, the aim is to study subject positions that are constructed in conversations between preschool music teachers (PMTs) and to discuss these positions in relation to the quality of preschool practice in music education. The theoretical and methodological frame…
The travelling and embedding of discourses on quality in early childhood education and care
The present article is a meta-ethnographic analysis of 15 first-order ethnographic studies with a focus on quality in early childhood education and care (ECEC). The aim of the study is to investigate how neoliberal policy discourses on quality in early childhood education and care travel between global and local contexts and how they become embedded in local preschool practices. Central concepts in the analysis are institutional strategic respons…
Tensions in communication— Teachers and academic facilitators in a critical friendship
This paper concerns the complex relationships between external facilitators and teachers in action research, as they work in a critical friendship to develop interaction in specific ways that open up rather than shut down communication and learning. The aim is to contribute with knowledge about interpersonal communication between academic facilitators and teachers in a development process where the teachers had a lack of influence in the initial …
