  • Sequence of ossification of the foot in marmosets ( Saguinus oedipus )

    Open Access•Bertram S Kraus, John K Hampton•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1969•References: 4

The cleared and alizarin‐stained feet of eight marmoset ( Saguinus oedipus ) fetuses revealed a sequence of initial ossification of the 19 bones of the foot that is almost totally different from that of man. The most striking difference is in the order of ossification of the distal phalanx of the big toe; in man it is the first bone to commence ossification, in the marmoset it is the fourteenth. It is suggested that the sequence of initial ossifi…

There is now enough material available to enable me to present to you an outline of the prehistoric cultural development of Japan with a high degree of reliability in its essential validity. Much remains to be done, however, both in the sphere of “dirt archaeology” and in the field of analy…

  • Acculturation, a New Approach to the Iroquoian Problem

    Open Access•Bertram S Kraus•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1944•Cited by: 2•References: 10

This paper is a plea for the complete reworking of the Iroquoian material, archaeological and historical, from the point of view of acculturation. The writer is not the first to make this plea. Both Fenton and Hunt have pointed out the necessity of reworking the source material for Iroquoian history; Fenton regards the 400 years of contact between Iroquois and white and between Iroquois and Algonkian as an excellent source 'for an acculturation s…
