  • Bronze Age Round Barrow with Burial Features at Sowerby Gateway Sports Village, North Yorkshire. Archaeological Investigations 2017–2018

Kate Langley, Katie Keefe et al.•ARTICLE•Yorkshire Archaeological Journal•2026

Archaeological investigations were undertaken at land off Gravel Hole Lane, Sowerby, North Yorkshire, between 2017 and 2018. Excavations revealed a Bronze Age round barrow, with internal features containing cremated human remains and the remains of three early Bronze Age Food Vessels. The Sowerby barrow is significant as lowland Bronze Age round barrows are scarce in this part of Yorkshire and have rarely been investigated using modern excavation…

  • Prehistoric Settlement, Two Post-Roman Inhumations and a Previously Unknown Medieval Church; Leyburn, North Yorkshire; Archaeological Investigation 2014–2015

Berny McCluskey, Chris Cumberpatch et al.•ARTICLE•Yorkshire Archaeological Journal•2025

An archaeological investigation was carried out by On-Site Archaeology Ltd at Harmby Road, Leyburn during October 2014 to January 2015. Radiocarbon dating revealed that at least one phase of early settlement was from the middle Iron Age 535–395 cal. BC. The prehistoric activity comprised a small number of roundhouses, four-post structures, enclosure ditches and pits, and post holes. A later post-Roman and early Anglo-Saxon phase was represented b…

  • Sex differences in attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnosis and clinical care

Open Access•Joanna Martin, Kate Langley et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2024

BACKGROUND: Population-based studies have observed sex biases in the diagnosis and treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Females are less likely to be diagnosed or prescribed ADHD medication. This study uses national healthcare records, to investigate sex differences in diagnosis and clinical care in young people with ADHD, particularly regarding recognition and treatment of other mental health conditions. METHODS: The coh…

  • Relative age in the school year and risk of mental health problems in childhood, adolescence and young adulthood

Open Access•Thomas Broughton, Kate Langley et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2023

PURPOSE: Relative age within the school year ('relative age') is associated with increased rates of symptoms and diagnoses of mental health disorders, including ADHD. We aimed to investigate how relative age influences mental health and behaviour before, during and after school (age range: 4-25 years). METHOD: We used a regression discontinuity design to examine the effect of relative age on risk of mental health problems using data from a large …

  • Investigating attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder traits in the general population

Open Access•Lucy Riglin, Beate Leppert et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2021

BACKGROUND: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are generally considered early-onset disorders so most research has therefore tended to focus on children. Differences between ADHD/ASD in adult life and childhood have been noted, but few population-based studies have examined them in adulthood. Furthermore, the interpretation of findings is hampered by changes in measure and from parent report to self…

  • Discovery of the first genome-wide significant risk loci for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder

    Open Access•Ditte Demontis, 23andMe Research Team et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Genetics•2019

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly heritable childhood behavioral disorder affecting 5% of children and 2.5% of adults. Common genetic variants contribute substantially to ADHD susceptibility, but no variants have been robustly associated with ADHD. We report a genome-wide association meta-analysis of 20,183 individuals diagnosed with ADHD and 35,191 controls that identifies variants surpassing genome-wide significance in…
