  • A Comparison of the Validity of Growth Estimates From Early Math Curriculum Based Measures and a Computer Adaptive Test

Open Access•Ethan R Van Norman, Kirsten J Truman et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology in the Schools•2026

This study compared the extent to which growth on two types of early math assessments (curriculum‐based measures [CBMs] and computer adaptive tests) predicted end of year performance in broad math skills as well as improvement in broad math skills in Kindergarten ( n = 211) and Grade 1 ( n = 79) students. In Kindergarten latent change scores between Fall and Winter benchmarks on all CBMs and i‐Ready were predictive of end of year scores on the St…

  • Number Sense Development During the Preschool Years

Robin L Hojnoski, Joy C Polignano et al.•ARTICLE•Early Education and Development•2023

Research Findings: This study examined age-based developmental trajectories of four key number sense (NS) skills within an accelerated longitudinal design. Using data from 408 preschoolers, ages 45 to 68 months, linear and latent basis growth curves were evaluated. Results indicated growth across NS skills was best represented as nonlinear for all but number naming. Significant variation in initial performance at 45 months was evident across skil…
