  • Somatotype in Relation to Profession in Elderly Japanese

    Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Sumiyo Kato et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2006•References: 5

  • Growth of Philippine Children in Reference to Socioeconomic Environment

    Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Chiyoko Kumakura et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1998•Cited by: 5•References: 1

Stature, body weight, and the body mass index (BMI) in cross-sectional sample of Philippine children aged 7-17 were studied in a rural region, Isabela Province (531 boys and 571 girls), and in an urban region, Metro Manila (984 girls and 1003 boys). Each region consisted of a poorly-off group and a well-off group. Children of well-off families were taller and heavier than those of poorly-off families in both rural and urban regions, and growth of…

  • Relative foot size and shape to general body size in Javanese, Filipinas and Japanese with special reference to habitual footwear types

Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, C Kumakura et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1997

Stature, body weight, left foot length and breadth were measured on East Javanese, Filipinas in Northern Luzon, and Japanese in Tokyo. No footwear is used by the Javanese, rubber sandals are used by the Filipinas, and sneakers or leather shoes by the Japanese group. Regression lines regardless of age were obtained among these four measurements, body mass index (BMI), and relative foot breadth to foot length. The relationships between general body…

  • The fourth molar in a mandible found in a Jomon skeleton in Japan

    Open Access•Takao Suzuki, Ayano Kusumoto et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1995•Cited by: 2•References: 6

A fourth molar in a mandible occurs very rarely, even in clinical surveys involving a large number of modern people. Having encountered a case with the fourth mandibular molar in a prehistoric skull in Japan, we would like to report on the macroscopic morphology of the case using X-rays, and to discuss the case with reference to literature concerning supernumerary teeth in the molar region

  • Anthropometrical Study of Some West-African Ethnic Groups in Relation to Techniques of the Body

Open Access•Kazutaka Adachi, Ayano Kusumoto et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of African Studies•1993

Kawada, a co-author of this study, has been interested in “Techniques du corps; Technique of the body”, which means the usage of the human body observed in common within a ethnic group but differently among groups, and which may be decided by the nature around and their culture. He has been studied it with a point of view of morphological and functional biology, ecology and culture in the field of West Africa, France and Japan. He has been invest…

  • Anthropometrical Data of Urban and Rural Japanese Children

Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Ayano Kusumoto et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1993•Cited by: 2

For the purposes of anthropometrical reference, two groups of Japanese school children, aged 7 to 12, were measured: (1) an urban Tokyo group of 133 boys and 139 girls in 1985, and (2) a rural Zinego (Akita Prefecture) group of 117 boys and 136 girls in 1987. Means and standard deviations of 20 measurements and 17 indices of the Tokyo group, and of 14 measurements and 15 indices of the Zinego group and of the Tokyo and Zinego combined group are p…

  • Comparative foot dimensions in Filipino rural children and Tokyo children

    Open Access•Ayano Kusumoto•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1990

The height, weight, chest circumference and foot size (length, breadth and circumference) were compared in Isabela (Philippines) and Tokyo (Japan) children in 1985. The Isabela subjects were 350 girls from 7 to 15 years of age, and 396 boys from 7 to 16 years of age. In Tokyo, the subjects were 191 girls and 186 boys, both from 7 to 18 years of age. The following results were obtained: (1) the Isabela children were significantly smaller in height…

  • Somatological studies of girls' dorsal form using Moire topography

Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Kazuko Dobashi et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1989

We studied the dorsal moire topographies of a group of 142 girls with an average age of 13.7 and another group of 113 girls with an average age of 16.4. Of the respective groups, 60 and 68 subjects were measured anthropometrically. They were photographed in a natural standing position, and 15% of the former group and 26% of the latter were excluded from the study beforehand because they had more than 7.5mm left-right dorsal depth difference. The …

  • Approximate surface development of the left side half‐trunk by a free‐formed model

Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Tanemi Kuki et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1988•References: 8

The approximate surface development, skin length, and surface area of the left side of the trunk of 51 female students were compared with regard to static and stretched postures. The data for each subject were obtained from geometrical models generated by moiré topography with a computer. When the chest was stretched, the anterior surface, the shoulder line, and the arm‐base line were transformed from concave to convex, and a gap oriented toward …

  • Fringe patterns and measurement on dorsal moiré topography in Japanese children, aged 13 and 14

Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Tanemi Kuki et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1985•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Dorsal moiré topographies of 165 boys and 156 girls, aged 13 and 14, were investigated. Moiré fringe patterns were classified into seven types, of which type IV, thin and symmetric back, was most frequent (29% in boys and 22% in girls), and types I and II thoracic, fleshy back, were observed in 15% of boys and 29% of girls. Settling four prominent points on the back, length, depth (number of fringes), angles between these points, and the most dep…

  • Dorsal Forms in Japanese School Children (Age of 13 and 14 Years) Studied by Moiré Topography

Open Access•Kumi Ashizawa, Ayano Kusumoto et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1984

The moire topography method is especially popular in spinal deformity diagnosis and estimating the success of surgery. However, this method had not hitherto been applied to healthy subjects. This report deals with dorsal forms of 71 boys and 59, girls, aged 13 and 14 years, using moire fringe topography. All subjects were diagnosed to be normal at the school scoliosis screening. Classification of moire patterns and photogrammetry, and computerized…
