Some Constitutions composed by Justinian
During the reigns of Justin (518–527) and Justinian (527–565), as at other periods of the later Roman empire, the duty of composing imperial constitutions fell on the quaestor of the sacred palace (qsp). His chief duty was said to be leges dictare . But this is perhaps too formal a description of his office. Composing laws was only part of his function.
