The Twelve Bander irrigation system of Mount Aragats, Armenia
This study examines the traditional water management systems of Mount Aragats (Armenia) through a case study of the Twelve Bander irrigation network situated on the mountain’s southern slopes. The band canals constitute a distinctive hydraulic system designed for temporary water diversion and flow regulation from high-altitude river sources. Using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates late 19th–early 20th-century archival records, ethnogra…
A newly Identified “Desert Kite” on the Northwestern Slopes of Mount Ararat
The newly discovered archaeological site is located on the right bank of the Araxes River, on the northwestern slopes of Mount Ararat. It was identified through the systematic analysis of satellite imagery. The site exhibits the characteristic features of “desert kites”, including a large enclosed area, external cells, and lateral protrusions. The dating remains unknown, as no field investigations have yet been conducted at the site. The structur…
Preliminary report on the faunal remains from Aragatsavan 1, Armenia
This paper presents the preliminary analysis of the zooarchaeological data from the settlement of Aragatsavan 1, Armenia. The excavation of the site is in progress and a complete stratigraphic sequence has not been obtained yet, while the excavated levels are dated to the second and third phases of the Trialeti-Vanadzor culture of the Middle Bronze Age period (19th -18/17th centuries BC). Taxonomic and metric analyses suggest that all the species…

This theory is mainly based on the ethnographic data as well as on the presence of several structural similarities between kites and game drives of other regions (North America, Scandinavia, Tibet). Other arguments as well …
