  • The Short‐term Effects of Executions on Homicides

    Open Access•K C Land, Raymond H C Teske et al.•ARTICLE•Criminology•2009•Cited by: 9•References: 33

Does the death penalty save lives? In recent years, a new round of research has been using annual time‐series panel data from the 50 U.S. states for 25 or so years from the 1970s to the late 1990s that claims to find many lives saved through reductions in subsequent homicide rates after executions. This research, in turn, has produced a round of critiques, which concludes that these findings are not robust enough to model even small changes in sp…

    Open Access•Raymond H C Teske, Raymond Teske et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Quarterly•1976•Cited by: 5•References: 14

The investigation focused on the identification of variables which might help explain differential assimilation rates among middle-class Mexican Americans. The data were collected from a random probability sample of 151 middle-class Mexican Americans residing in Waco, Austin. McAllen, and Lubbock, Texas. Three Likert-type scales designed to measure various components of the assimilation process were developed out of items abstracted from standard…

  • Acculturation and Assimilation

    Open Access•Raymond H C Teske, Raymond Teske et al.•ARTICLE•American Ethnologist•1974•Cited by: 69•References: 38

The purpose of this paper is to provide a clarification of the relationship between acculturation and assimilation through the development of a conceptual framework. By means of a careful review of theoretically relevant literature prevalent characteristics related to each concept are delineated and discussed in order to identify and synthesize common, as well as contrasting, elements. A comparison of these elements or characteristics is then und…
