What does feeling younger or older than one’s chronological age mean to men and women? Qualitative and quantitative findings from the PROTECT study
OBJECTIVE: We explored which factors are associated with subjective age (SA), i.e. feeling younger, the same as, or older than one's chronological age, and whether these factors differ between men and women and between two age sub-groups. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study using qualitative and quantitative data for 1457 individuals (mean age= 67.2 years). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Participants reported how old they feel they are and provided comments in…
An online, public health framework supporting behaviour change to reduce dementia risk
The ISLAND framework and interventions, a personalised DRP report and the four-week PDMOOC, work independently and synergistically to increase dementia risk knowledge and stimulate health behaviour change for dementia risk reduction. ISLAND offers a feasible and scalable public health approach for redressing the rising prevalence of dementia
Invasive experimental brain surgery for dementia
The increasing dementia prevalence worldwide is driving the testing of novel therapeutic approaches, such as invasive brain technologies, despite limited clinical evidence and the risk of accelerating cognitive decline. Our manuscript (a) reviews the NIH Clinicaltrials.gov database for deep brain stimulation, stem cell implantation, and gene therapy trials on people with dementia; (b) discusses issues on beneficence, nonmaleficence, and autonomy …
Is the Understanding Dementia Massive Open Online Course Accessible and Effective for Everyone? Native Versus Non-Native English Speakers
Most massive open online courses (MOOCs) are offered in English, including those offered by non-English speaking universities. The study investigated an identified English language dementia MOOC’s accessibility and effectiveness in improving the dementia knowledge of non-native English speaker participants. A total of 6,389 enrolees (age range 18–82 years; 88.4% female) from 67 countries was included in analyses. Dementia knowledge was measured b…
Improving Student Understanding of Clerkship Expectations With an Online, Interactive Frame-of-Reference Training Module
Assessment of medical students during clerkships is largely driven by clinical performance ratings, but many students perceive clinical evaluations to be “unfair” and call for more training of evaluators. 1 Limitations in self-assessment may contribute to this perception, 2 and frame-of-reference training may improve students’ ability to recognize different levels of performance. 3 The objective of this study was to determine if an online, frame-…
Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
Medical Education Program Highlights Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School has a 4-year curriculum, and for AY 2020–2021, a 2 + 2 structure. There is an integrated systems-based preclerkship curriculum with normal structure and function, physiology/biochemical/molecular biology principles in year 1, and pathology/pathophysiology/pharmacology in year 2. The curriculum is anchored by the Patient Centered Medicine (PCM) course, teaching skills …
