The aim of this article is to give an overall picture of the ‘renaissance’ of Islam in Kyrgyzstan. We have little information about the Islamisation of this old nomadic people. Kyrgyz living in the Ferghana Valley started to adopt Islam in the late seventeenth century. A Soviet Socialist Republic was formed in 1936.
