Collaborative Making of a Boundary Object for Classifying Generative AI Learning Activities
Educational research has seen a surge in publications investigating the use of Generative AI (GenAI) for learning. The aim of this article is to initiate a discussion of how to systematise GenAI learning activities in a way that reflects the postdigital entanglement of humans and technology in contemporary learning, identifying key constituent aspects and how they mesh. We explore potential core categories of such a systematisation, and one way t…
A gender perspective on the structure of adolescents’ interest in science
It has repeatedly been documented that there are cross-sectional gender differences in adolescents’ science interest, and these differences are often considered the main factor behind the gap in enrolment rates in higher education STEM programmes. Based on expectancy-value theory and interest theory, this study models interest and tests how self-efficacy and utility value predict science interest among male and female adolescents based on the PIS…
Predictors of students’ interest in a citizen science programme
This study investigates upper secondary students’ situational interest in a collaborative citizen science programme that involves genetic monitoring of freshwater fauna by analysing environmental DNA (eDNA) extracted from local pond water. The programme was attended by a sample that comprised 1879 students (Mage = 18.15, SD = 1.94) from 105 classes. The results indicate that students were excited by the highly sophisticated laboratory procedure. …
