  • Emerging Patterns of Participation in Virtual Live Concerts

    Open Access•Laryssa Whittaker, Thomas Wagner•ARTICLE•IASPM Journal•2025

Digital disruption has radically reorganized the sociality and economics of the music industries. This is perhaps nowhere more apparent than at ‘virtual’ concerts in Massive Multiplayer Games such as Fortnite, in Virtual Reality platforms such as VRChat and in web 3.0 worlds such as Decentraland. This chapter presents the results of a study exploring the behaviours and values of audiences of live online music events. We begin by reviewing the exi…

  • Effects of input frequency and microvariation on knowledge of negative inversion in L2 English

    Open Access•Tom Rankin, Thomas Wagner•ARTICLE•Linguistic Approaches to…•2025

The present study investigates whether L2 learners of English distinguish between (un)grammatical word orders after fronted negative adverbials to identify negative inversion. Previous research on transfer and resetting of verb second (V2) in L1 German–L2 English is extended to explore residual V2 in the form of negative inversion. An acceptability judgment task elicited sentence ratings from advanced German-speaking learners of English for front…

  • High-resolution observations of NO 2 and CO 2 emission plumes from EnMAP satellite measurements

Open Access•Christian Borger, Steffen Beirle et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

Accurate quantification of emissions from anthropogenic sources is crucial for monitoring greenhouse gases and air pollution. Nitrogen oxides (NO x ) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) are of particular interest due to their role in atmospheric chemistry and global warming, respectively. Satellite observations are a key component for independent monitoring of emissions on a global scale. In this study, we demonstrate for the first time the simultaneous d…

  • That Plastic Is Not Mine”

    Open Access•Inna Yaneva-Toraman, Duc Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•Social Analysis•2025

In coastal Vietnam, everyday lives and production processes are entwined with the seasonal rhythms and movement of plastics in waterways. This article explores how aquaculture farmers and fishers interpret encounters with aquatic plastics, and how their perceptions of these objects’ spatial and temporal origins offer insights into their own discard practices. Through their repetitive movement, plastics become objects of ‘non-belonging’ and ‘out o…

  • Holocene tephras in the New Guinea highlands

    Open Access•Chris Firth, Russell Blong et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2025•References: 40

In the highlands of Papua New Guinea (PNG), tephras are key chronostratigraphic markers for archaeological and palaeoenvironmental studies. Here, mid-Late-Holocene tephras are geochemically fingerprinted and correlated across seventeen sites in PNG. This enables the first regional scale assessment of the distribution of these tephras, with implications for both assessing eruption magnitude and interpreting site stratigraphy. In the past, stratigr…

  • I usually just rely on my intuition and go from there.” pedagogical rules and metalinguistic awareness of pre-service EFL teachers

    Open Access•Tom Rankin, Thomas Wagner•ARTICLE•IRAL - International Review of…•2025•References: 24

The present study explores Austrian pre-service EFL teachers’ language awareness. The negative polarity properties of ‘any’ are investigated. These are informative since some of the grammatical constraints are taught in EFL instruction while others are not. The research question addresses whether pre-service teachers’ knowledge is constrained by pedagogical rules. 66 pre-service EFL teachers rated eight sentence types illustrating varying grammat…

Through the motif of the righteous sufferer and the interplay of focalisation and metaphor, the author of the book of Job is able to construct epistemic agency related to Job's beliefforming practices o…

Variations in the amount and composition of sedimentary organic matter in glacial and interglacial deposits of the last 2.7 myr correlate with late Cenozoic climatic and oceanographic changes in the Norwegian-Greenland Sea. These variations are predominantly caused by the changing supply of terrestrial and reworked organic matter. The highest amounts of terrestrial organic particles (macerals) and of reworked coal clasts in glacial and early degl…

Time series of terrigenous source elements (Al, K, Ti, Zr) from core GeoB4901-8 recovered from the deep-sea fan of the Niger River record variations in riverine sediment discharge over the past 245,000 yr. Although the flux rates of all the elements depend on physical erosion, which is mainly controlled by the extent of vegetation coverage in central Africa, element/Al ratios reflect conditions for chemical weathering in the river basin. Maximum …
