Blanquitud, racismo estructural y trabajo sexual en los “cafés polarizados” de Santiago de Chile
This article examines how whiteness operates as an organizing principle of racial, national, and sexual hierarchies in Santiago de Chile’s “cafés polarizados” (tinted coffee shops), and how the racialization of migrant women produces differentiated forms of inclusion, exclusion, and labor precarity within a highly stratified sexual marketplace. Drawing on sociohistorical, decolonial, and intersectional perspectives, the study explores the relatio…
Nonrecognition as violence: The stakes of abolitionist agendas and the invisibilization of sexual labor in Chile
Sexual labor in Chile remains criminalized despite organized sex workers’ demands for recognition. Drawing on interviews with autonomous sex workers, advocacy groups, and feminist debates on sex work, this article argues that the Chilean state’s abolitionist agenda is the primary cause of the material and symbolic precarity experienced by sex workers. While sex workers view their labor as a means of economic empowerment and as offering better con…
Integrating Fuzzy Cognitive Maps and the Delphi Method in the Conservation of Transhumance Heritage: The Case of Andorra
Transhumance and its associated heritage are extremely complex and dynamic systems, and their conservation requires the analysis of interdisciplinary factors. To this end, fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) and Delphi surveys were applied for the first time in the field of heritage conservation. The model was applied to the tangible and intangible transhumance heritage of Andorra to determine its current state of conservation and to evaluate strategies …
ART-Risk 3.0 a fuzzy-based platform that combine GIS and expert assessments for conservation strategies in cultural heritage
Heritage preservation poses numerous difficulties, especially in emergency situations or during budget cuts. In these contexts, having tools that facilitate efficient and rapid management of hazards-vulnerabilities is a priority for the preventive conservation and triage of cultural assets. This paper presents the first (to the authors' knowledge) free and public availability Artificial Intelligence platform designed for conservation strategies i…
Assessment by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy of penetration depth in limestones of four nano-biocides based on silver/titanium nanoparticles
Four biocidal treatments based on nanoparticles were designed and their penetration depths were characterized by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technique. This kind of biocidal nanoparticles are being studied to be employed in historic buildings and stone monuments due to their capability to inhibit the growth of biofoulings. The effectiveness of the treatment is related to the penetration depth of the nanoparticles in the limestone …
Christian-Muslim contacts across the Mediterranean: Byzantine glass mosaics in the Great Umayyad Mosque of Córdoba (Spain)
Glass mosaic decorations were used throughout the medieval Mediterranean as a powerful medium to convey religious and political agendas, yet we know next to nothing about the source of the materials and the transmission of the necessary technical know-how. Mosaics are generally considered a Byzantine art form, not least due to their prominence in Byzantine church architecture and because medieval Islamic textual sources assert that the glass tess…
Determination of the technical suitability of shelters for archaeological sites using fuzzy logic
Basic Protocol for On-Site Testing Consolidant Nanoparticles on Stone Cultural Heritage
Currently the application of consolidants based on nanoparticles is common practice among restorers. Consolidants should not modify the properties of original materials according to international recommendation, which requires previous studies to decide the optimal option. The selection must be based on empirical results, and not only in the expertise of the restorer, because the consolidant’s effectiveness is influenced by its own properties and…
