  • Nationwide prevalence of infertility in Iranian couples

    Open Access•Robabeh Taheripanah, Ali-Akbar Haghdoost et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

In this study, the 12 and 24-month prevalence of primary infertility and secondary infertility has been estimated for Iran, and the provinces have been categorized as low, middle, middle-up, and high according to the estimated prevalence. These measures are crucial for health managers to tailor interventions and allocate health resources based on the actual needs of the population, enabling more effective planning in each province

  • Socioeconomic disparities in Papanicolaou test utilization in Western Iran

    Open Access•Bahare Safari-Faramani, Roya Safari‐Faramani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The uptake of Papanicolaou tests varies across different socioeconomic status levels, with a higher concentration among wealthier groups. The results enable health policymakers and researchers to tailor health intervention toward increasing public awareness, especially among women with lower levels of education women in economically deprived groups

  • Effect of physical activity on sleep quality in patients with major depression disorder

Open Access•Habibolah Khazaie, Ebrahim Norouzi et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

  • Comparison of the physical activity levels between shift workers and non-shift workers in a large-scale cross-sectional study in Iran

    Open Access•Anahita Najafi, Roya Safari‐Faramani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The prevalence of insufficient physical activity was higher among non-shift workers than shift workers in our study. By providing the factors associated with insufficient physical activity among the workers in a region of Iran, the current study findings might help policymakers target groups at higher risk of physical activity in Iran and design interventions to improve physical activity, especially among non-shift workers

  • Population size estimation of female sex workers using network scale-up method in Kermanshah city

    Open Access•Lida Olfati, Roya Safari‐Faramani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

The number of female sex workers estimated in this study is considerable, which highlights the importance of planning harm reduction interventions in order to alleviate the burden of HIV infection in the population

  • Prevalence of short and long sleep duration

Open Access•Arezu Najafi, Samaneh Akbarpour et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

In the Ravansar population, short and long sleep duration are prevalent, with long sleep duration having higher prevalence. People at risk, such as night shift workers, as well as modifiable factors, such as mobile phone use, can be targeted with interventions to improve sleep hygiene

  • Global, regional, and national burden of neurological disorders, 1990–2016

Open Access•Valery L Feigin, Emma Nichols et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Neurology•2019

BACKGROUND: Neurological disorders are increasingly recognised as major causes of death and disability worldwide. The aim of this analysis from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2016 is to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date estimates of the global, regional, and national burden from neurological disorders. METHODS: We estimated prevalence, incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs;…

  • Global, regional, and national age-sex-specific mortality and life expectancy, 1950–2017

Open Access•Daniel Dicker, Grant Nguyen et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BACKGROUND: Assessments of age-specific mortality and life expectancy have been done by the UN Population Division, Department of Economics and Social Affairs (UNPOP), the United States Census Bureau, WHO, and as part of previous iterations of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD). Previous iterations of the GBD used population estimates from UNPOP, which were not derived in a way that was internally consistent wit…

  • Global, regional, and national comparative risk assessment of 84 behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risks or clusters of risks for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2017

    Open Access•Jeffrey D Stanaway, Ashkan Afshin et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BackgroundThe Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017 comparative risk assessment (CRA) is a comprehensive approach to risk factor quantification that offers a useful tool for synthesising evidence on risks and risk–outcome associations. With each annual GBD study, we update the GBD CRA to incorporate improved methods, new risks and risk–outcome pairs, and new data on risk exposure levels and risk–outcome associatio…

  • Global, regional, and national disability-adjusted life-years (Dalys) for 359 diseases and injuries and healthy life expectancy (Hale) for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2017

    Open Access•Hmwe Hmwe Kyu, D Abate et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BACKGROUND: How long one lives, how many years of life are spent in good and poor health, and how the population's state of health and leading causes of disability change over time all have implications for policy, planning, and provision of services. We comparatively assessed the patterns and trends of healthy life expectancy (HALE), which quantifies the number of years of life expected to be lived in good health, and the complementary measure o…

  • Measuring progress from 1990 to 2017 and projecting attainment to 2030 of the health-related Sustainable Development Goals for 195 countries and territories

Open Access•R Lozano, Nancy Fullman et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BACKGROUND: Efforts to establish the 2015 baseline and monitor early implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight both great potential for and threats to improving health by 2030. To fully deliver on the SDG aim of "leaving no one behind", it is increasingly important to examine the health-related SDGs beyond national-level estimates. As part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017 (GBD 2…

  • Global, regional, and national incidence, prevalence, and years lived with disability for 354 diseases and injuries for 195 countries and territories, 1990–2017

    Open Access•L James, Spencer L James et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2018

BACKGROUND: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017 (GBD 2017) includes a comprehensive assessment of incidence, prevalence, and years lived with disability (YLDs) for 354 causes in 195 countries and territories from 1990 to 2017. Previous GBD studies have shown how the decline of mortality rates from 1990 to 2016 has led to an increase in life expectancy, an ageing global population, and an expansion of the non-fatal…
