    ławomir Wadyl, István Pánya•ARTICLE•Światowit•2025

This article presents five newly discovered miniature axe amulets from Bács-Kiskun County in the Carpathian Basin, significantly expanding the known corpus of such objects in Central and Eastern Europe. With a total of eighteen examples now documented from Hungary, including a notable concentration in the southern Great Plain, these finds invite a critical reassessment of existing interpretations. Traditionally linked to the Rus’ cultural sphere …

  • Significant Results of Archaeological Research the Past 30 Years on the Mongol Invasion (1241—42) in Medieval Hungarian Kingdom

Open Access•Sz Rosta, Gy Gulyás et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings in Archaeology and…•2024

The article presents the latest results of archaeological research into the events of the Mongol invasion against the Kingdom of Hungary in the Carpathian Basin in 1241—42. Despite the wealth of written sources, archaeology could not provide any serious evidence of the events of the Mongol invasion in Hungary for a long time. However, for a long time there was no clear and reliable evidence of massacres and widespread destruction, which could be …

  • A Burgundian Pilgrim Ampulla from Katymár

    Open Access•B RÁCZ, István Pánya•ARTICLE•Hungarian Archaeology•2023

In Hungary, community archaeology and the inclusion of metal detectorists in research projects have produced overwhelmingly positive results. In addition to the rapid increase in the number of known archaeological sites, many new finds found their way into museums over the last decade. The subject of the present study is one of these, a pilgrim ampulla found during a field survey connected to the medieval settlement research project of Bács-Kisku…

  • Burgundi zarándokampulla Katymárról

    Open Access•B RÁCZ, István Pánya•ARTICLE•Magyar Régészet•2023

Magyarországon a közösségi régészet, azon belül is a múzeumbarát fémkeresős kutatók tevékenysége számos téren hozott új eredményeket. Amellett, hogy lelőhelyek sokasága vált ismertté a régészek számára, hatalmas mennyiségű, ezres nagyságrendű – alapvetően fémből készült – leletanyag került be a közgyűjteményekbe. Jelen tanulmány témáját egy különlegességnek számító lelet adja, amely a Bács-Kiskun vármegyei középkori településkutatási program sorá…

The National Archives of Hungary, the Research Centre for the Humanities and the Katona József Museum of Kecskemét have collaborated with the aim of reconstructing the medieval and early modern period settlement network and administration of the southern part of the Danube–Tisza Interfluve region. During the works all available medieval sources and Ottoman tax registers (including four sanjak surveys, four poll tax defters, three timar defters, a…

  • Bács mezőváros középkori és kora újkori térszerkezete

    Open Access•Miklós Fóti, István Pánya•ARTICLE•Belvedere Meridionale•2022

The topographical and morphological investigations of the medieval and early modern market towns in the area of Ottoman Hungary are a neglected topic of research in Hungary and abroad. This also applies to Bács, which was one of the most important centres of the southern part of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve Region in the late Middle Ages and in the early modern period. The internal structure of the market town could be reconstructed based on writt…

  • Hájszentlőrinc mezőváros topográfiája

    Open Access•István Pánya•ARTICLE•Belvedere Meridionale•2022

In my study, I summarize the outer and inner topography of the market town of Hájszentlőrinc which existed in the southern part of the historical Kingdom of Hungary, in today’s Serbia. My aim is to provide a methodological example for researchers of the historico-geography of settlements. First, I examine the border of the settlement, its surroundings and the neighbouring settlements, and then I reconstruct the former built-up area of the market …
