  • Social perceptions of carnivores across the globe – a literature review

Open Access•Amy Newsom, Jorge Lozano et al.•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•2025

To explore the factors underpinning human?carnivore relations, we reviewed 146 scientific publications recording associations of 34 socio-economic, actor-related, and species-related variables with people?s views on the beneficial and detrimental contributions of carnivorous terrestrial mammals to people. The associations with respective variables were coded as positive, negative, not significant, or mixed. They were then compared between geograp…

  • Carnivores’ contributions to people in Europe

    Open Access•Sofía Palacios-Pacheco, Berta Martín-López et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2024

Human-carnivore relations in Europe have varied throughout history. Because of recent conservation efforts and passive rewilding, carnivore populations are recovering, which translates into more interactions with humans. Thus, unraveling these interactions as well as the multiple contributions carnivores provide to people is crucial to their conservation. We examined the literature conducted in Europe since 2000 and used the nature’s contribution…

  • Oscar Traversa, in memoriam (1940-2020)

    Open Access•Jorge Lozano•ARTICLE•deSignis•2022

  • Late-glacial fluctuations of two southern Patagonia outlet glaciers revealed by high-resolution seismic surveys

Open Access•Emanuele Lodolo, Jorge Lozano et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

Lago Argentino hosts various calving glaciers, among them the famous Perito Moreno. Whereas the onland late Pleistocene–Holocene glacial history is rather well constrained, the submerged glacier-related features were until now undisclosed. Here we present a series of high-resolution seismic profiles revealing moraine bodies associated with the late-glacial glacier dynamics and the first bathymetric map of the Brazo Rico and Brazo Sur, the two sou…

Historically, semiotics has played a role in many debates about the fundamental problems that shape the field of Communication, and some of its concepts remain central to contemporary studies. Most recently, however, other Communication disciplines have shifted towards more positivist approaches while the influence of semiotics has reduced. This article describes some conceptual relationships and misunderstandings that have characterized the dial…

  • Human-carnivore relations

    Open Access•Mónica Expósito-Granados, Mónica Expósito‐Granados et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2019

Carnivore and humans live in proximity due to carnivore recovery efforts and ongoing human encroachment into carnivore habitats globally. The American West is a region that uniquely exemplifies these human-carnivore dynamics, however, it is unclear how the research community here integrates social and ecological factors to examine human-carnivore relations. Therefore, strategies promoting human-carnivore coexistence are urgently needed. We conduc…
