A comprehensive investigation utilizing topic modeling to analyze research interests and trends in digital literacy
The objective of this study is to delineate the existing research landscape and prevalent trends in digital literacy by applying topic modeling methodologies. For this purpose, 2,223 articles published between 2007 and mid-2024 retrieved from the Scopus database were analyzed using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model. The findings revealed a consistent increase in publications over time, with a significant acceleration from 2019 onwards. Ten di…
Recirculating Foundational Problems
This editorial presents a structured synthesis of the thematic development of the Journal of Educational Computing Research (JECR) from 1987 to 2024, drawing on a computational analysis of 1,597 articles. Applying Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), the analysis identifies thirteen thematic structures that reveal both the enduring commitments and the emerging orientations of the journal across nearly four decades. Themes such as problem-solving th…
Thematic Evolution of Educational Technology Research
This study aims to reveal the thematic evolution of the educational technology field by analyzing 17,393 articles published between 2000 and 2024 in ten leading journals using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) based topic modeling. Based on the analysis of title, abstract, and keywords, 20 themes were identified and grouped under seven broader meta-themes such as “Teacher Professional Competence and Technology Adoption”, “Digital and Discipli…
Investigation of Emerging Trends in the E-Learning Field Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation
E-learning studies are becoming very important today as they provide alternatives and support to all types of teaching and learning programs. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on educational systems has further increased the significance of e-learning. Accordingly, gaining a full understanding of the general topics and trends in e-learning studies is critical for a deeper comprehension of the field. There are many studies that provide such a pi…
