  • Developing a Binational Community-Based Participatory Research Partnership to Address Reproductive Health on the U.S.–Mexico Border

Elizabeth Salerno Valdez, Rosi Andrade et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in community health…•2019•Cited by: 1

We learned how to use existing networks to form the partnership and leverage resources to address an existing health disparity. We learned how to leverage critical partnerships to bridge national, cultural, and linguistic differences to conduct binational partnership research, and to…

  • Intimate attachments and migrant deportability

Eithne Luibhéid, Rosi Andrade et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnic and Racial Studies•2018•Cited by: 19•References: 30

Nicholas De Genova (2002) suggests that undocumented status is primarily experienced through consciousness of being deportable. Interviews with undocumented Mexican migrant women living in Arizona show that they experience deportability not just in workplaces, which have been the focus of much scholarship, but also when seeking healthcare benefits for their U.S. citizen children. This article therefore expands the scholarship on deportability by …

Sally J Stevens, Sally Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Practice…•2015

The high rates of traumatic experiences reported by women who use alcohol and drugs have been documented in the literature. This study builds on the existing literature by examining the experiences of intergenerational family loss trauma among 226 mothering female substance users from 3 racial and ethnic groups: Native American (26.5%), Latina (24.8%), and White (48.7%). Demographic information, substance use, intergenerational exposure to mother…

  • Women and Substance Abuse

Sally J Stevens, Rosi Andrade et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnicity in Substance…•2009

Historically, data has shown that a smaller percentage of women use alcohol and illicit substances compared to men, and that frequency of use has been lower among women compared to use among men. Although this data on usage may be true, researchers also acknowledge that substance use among women has been a hidden issue, one not realistically acknowledged by society, especially prior to the mid-1960s. Along with this, more recent data indicates th…

  • Bridging Funds of Distributed Knowledge

Norma Gonzalez, Rosi Andrade et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Education for Students…•2001

The work in this article has a basis in a long-term research paradigm investigating the "funds of knowledge" of diverse populations. This conceptualization adopts an anthropological perspective for viewing the households of low-income and minority students as repositories of diverse knowledge bases. In the BRIDGE project, the focus has been on understanding the mathematical potential of households, as well as "mathematizing" household practices. …
