Transformations in participation, creative and political practices in the punk scene in Bogotá during the Covid-19 pandemic
This article studies the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic through its different phases by looking at the case of Bogotá’s punk scene and analysing the activities of different collectives involved in the organization of music shows and other types of gatherings. We contribute to understanding those effects by answering the question of how the pandemic has transformed the creative, collaborative and political practices of its participants. We consi…
Looking for a place for Sonification
This paper discusses the concept of sonification aplied to the Sons de Silício exhibition and more specifically to the design of Buzu, an audiovisual installation that generates an auditory image of the São Paulo bus transportation system. Buzu makes perceptible information of both the system’s planning and behavior during a particular week in October 2017. The work is an artistic outcome of the InterSCity project, an inter‐institutional research…

This paper discusses the headphones as key factors in the establishment of a mobile listening culture by suggesting that the function of this artifact has been changing according not only with technological innovation, but also with economic contingencies borrowed from capitalist logics. By discussing concepts such as tympanic function (Jonathan Sterne) and Commodity Scientism (Thimoty Taylor) the text will examine theories on the origins of head…
Esmog Data
The article presents Esmog Data, an immersive installation exhibited in the Balance-Unbalance International Conference held in Manizales, Colombia in 2016. The piece explores the visualization and sonification of urban environmental data. Esmog Data works transforming sensor readings of different toxic gases into perceptible stimuli (audio and computer graphics). While air quality is a local everyday community issue, the goal of the project is en…
AirQ sonification as a context for mutual contribution between science and music
This paper addresses a high-level discussion about the links between Science and Music, focusing on my own sonification and auditory display practices around air quality. Grounded on recent insights on interdisciplina- rity and sonification practices, the first sections will point out some potential contributions from scientific research to music studies and vice versa. I will propose the concept of mutualism to depict the interdependent status o…
