  • Roads to development? A comparison of development corridors vs regional roads in the Zambezi Region, Namibia

Open Access•Justina Tuulikefo Nangolo, Corinne Hutt et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2025

Despite the increasing popularity of development corridors, their effectiveness in promoting regional development compared to regional roads remains uncertain. This study utilised satellite imagery to compare land use transformation within a 10km corridor effect zone along the Walvis Bay - Ndola - Lubumbashi Development Corridor (WBNLDC) and regional roads in Namibia's Zambezi Region. Overall, the Zambezi Region experienced a strong increase in b…

  • Sex Differences in Human Development

    Open Access•Corinne Hutt•ARTICLE•Human Development•2009

Sex differences in many aspects of early human development are reviewed: in physical growth and maturation, in motor activity and sensory capacities in infancy, in mother-infant interaction, in the onset of fear, in the social behaviour of of pre-school children, in exploration, play and creativity, and in intellectual functions. These data are considered in the context of evidence from other mammalian studies, with particular emphasis on the neu…

  • Attention and Activity in the Young Child

Open Access•Susan Tyler, HELEN FOY et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•1979

S ummary . The attentive capacities of young children were studied in terms of spans of activity and of attention. The first study examined activity spans in four types of pre‐school establishment and the second study examined attention in the infant school. In both pre‐school and infant school the influence of the adult in focusing the children's attention was demonstrated

  • Degrees of Novelty and Their Effects on Children's Attention and Preference

    Open Access•Corinne Hutt•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1975•Cited by: 1

Two experiments investigated the question of whether those attributes of stimuli effective in eliciting attention are also effective in motivating choice. In the first experiment children of 4 and 6 years were given the opportunity to view pictures varying in novelty. They could choose the type of picture they wished to view and view as long as they wished. They also stated their preference. Novelty influenced attention and expressed preference b…

  • Temporal Effects on Response Decrement and Stimulus Satiation in Exploration

    Open Access•Corinne Hutt•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1967•Cited by: 1

Some workers have shown the temporal course of exploration to be decremented with time, while others have shown it to be maintained at a constant level from day to day. It has been argued that different behaviours are involved in the two cases and that the latter effect is a function of the experimental conditions. Experiments with nursery‐school children substantiated this argument. A further experiment sought to establish the most appropriate t…
