  • Tożsamość ukryta w imionach. O polskich imionach chińskich studentów z perspektywy glottodydaktycznej

    Open Access•Duola Long, Adriana Prizel-Kania•ARTICLE•Postscriptum Polonistyczne•2024

  • On Making a Living Teaching and Learning Christian Ethics

D Stephen Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•Journal of the Society of…•2024

What is the work that we do teaching and learning Christian ethics? This essay addresses the form and content of an answer to that question, suggesting that the content of our discipline implicitly and explicitly resists the form of the managed university within which it is often taught

  • C. A. W. Manning and the Discipline of International Relations

David Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•The Round Table•2005

As one of the first holders of a Chair in International Relations, Charles Manning was a significant early proponent of and advocate for the now wildly popular academic study of international relations. In his lifetime he may have lost the battle over the vision of the discipline that he propounded. But it is arguable that his views resonate more today than they did when he died in 1978.

  • The European Union and the Ottawa Process to ban landmines

David Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•Journal of European Public Policy•2002•Cited by: 7•References: 3

This paper addresses the reason why the EU had such a great deal of trouble committing to the Ottawa Process to ban landmines. Though a number of EU member states were key proponents of a comprehensive ban, the 1997 Joint Action on landmines fell well short of wholehearted support for a ban. In the Joint Action, the EU restricted the transfer and production of anti-personnel mines but not their use or stockpiling, despite the fact that all but on…

  • "A Radical Teacher's Dilemma. Response to "Practicing Radical Pedagogy

    David Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•Teaching Sociology•1998•Cited by: 2

THE ARTICLE, Practicing Radical Pedagogy: Balancing Ideals with Institutional Constraints, initially brought to mind Richard Bach's (1977) comment that We teach what we need to learn most. In a sense, the article gives flesh to Bach's insight by taking seriously the assumption that being and becoming the best teacher one can be demands an openness to scrutinizing one's own pedagogical philosophy and practice with a critical eye. Moreover, in soci…

  • The Harvard School of Liberal International Theory

    Open Access•David Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•Millennium Journal of International…•1995•Cited by: 11•References: 5

This chapter advances a critique of an increasingly dominant school in international relations: the Harvard School of Liberal International Theory. The academics who make up this school are joined in a common project of creating an alternative to realism and neorealism in international theory, and draw explicitly or silently on liberal premises, theories and/or ideas to advance this project. The focus of this chapter is on two authors, Robert O. K…

  • Sociology and a Pedagogy for Liberation

David Alan Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•Teaching Sociology•1995•Cited by: 4

L'A. presente …

  • International Functionalism and the Politics of Forgetting

David Long, David G Long et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal Canada s…•1993•Cited by: 3

Most accounts of the development of the functional approach in international relations begin with a brief tribute to some of the precursors, such as Arthur Salter, Paul S. Reinsch, Leonard Woolf, the Fabians, Guild Socialists, and Pluralists. They then move swiftly on to David Mitrany's A Working Peace System and a logical evaluation and an assessment in light of subsequent experience in the realm of international organization.1 This

  • J. A. Hobson and Idealism In International relations

    Open Access•David Long, Duola Long•ARTICLE•Review of International Studies•1991•Cited by: 3•References: 4

    J. A. Hobson died on April Fools’ Day in the first year of the Second World War. This, and a whimsical anecdote from A. J. P. Taylor, might appear to be enough to justify the portrayal of Hobson as an idealist. This paper critically assesses the work of J. A. Hobson and its relation to idealism as a category of international relations thought. An examination of Hobson’s writings on international relations shows that there are three distinct stran…
