Two Mithila Artists Respond to Modi's Covid-19 Lockdown in 2020
In the spring and summer of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to sweep through India, artists from the Mithila region began to paint about the new world in which they lived. Recent evidence on child mortality and fertility trends in the community known as Karimpur in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh presents a troubling puzzle: the female children of the poor are now dying at a much more rapid rate than their brothers.
