  • Comparing direct-to-consumer genetic testing services in English, Japanese, and Chinese websites

    Open Access•Kentaro Nagai, Mikihito Tanaka et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2023•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 3

Direct-to-consumer genetic testing (DTC-GT) has rapidly become available and affordable throughout developed countries. However, comparative research on DTC-GT services beyond Western countries has remained scarce, particularly in East Asian countries such as Japan and China. Hence, this study’s hypothesis is that although DTC-GT services in three languages might utilize the same underlying testing technology, such services are likely to represen…

  • Mapping Human Genetic Diversity in Asia

Open Access•Mahmood Ameen Abdulla, Ikhlak Ahmed et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2009

Patterns of Early Migration In order to gain insight into various migrations that must have happened during movement of early humans into Asia and the subsequent populating of the largest continent on Earth, the HUGO Pan-Asian SNP Consortium (p. 1541 ) analyzed genetic variation in almost 2000 individuals representing 73 Asian and two non-Asian populations. The results suggest that there may have been a single major migration of people into Asia …

  • HLA-DRB1 polymorphism on Ha'ano island of the Kingdom of Tonga

Open Access•Jun Ohashi, Izumi Naka et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2006

HLA-DRB1 polymorphism was investigated by molecular DNA-based typing in 37 Tongans living on Ha’ano island of the Ha’apai group. The predominant HLA-DRB1 alleles were DRB1*0901 (20.3%) and DRB1*0403 (18.9%). A principal component analysis of the DRB1 allele frequencies discriminated between the Polynesians and other Oceanian populations, including Melanesians, Micronesians, and Australian Aborigines. Both present and previous studies have shown t…

  • Brief communication

Open Access•Jun Ohashi, Izumi Naka et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2006•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 24

Archaeological, linguistic, and genetic studies show that Austronesian (AN)-speaking Polynesian ancestors came from Asia/Taiwan to the Bismarck Archipelago in Near Oceania more than 3,600 years ago, and then expanded into Remote Oceania. However, it remains unclear whether they extensively mixed with indigenous Melanesians who had populated the Bismarck Archipelago before their arrival. To examine the extent of admixture between Polynesian ancest…

  • HLA-DRB1 Polymorphism of Balopa Islanders in Papua New Guinea

Open Access•Olga Tarasenko, Ольга Андріївна Тарасенко et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2003

Perelik, Solang, and Mouk villages are located in Balopa islands of Papua New Guinea (PNG). It is known that languages spoken in Balopa belong to the same family of Austronesian languages, but the language of Mouk is different from others at a sub-family level. Most of Balopa islanders have subsisted mainly on horticulture and reef fishing, while Mouk villagers have depended on fishing and trading. In order to investigate the genetic similarities…

  • Polymorphisms of HLA-A and -B Genes in the Kyrgyz Population

Open Access•Olga Tarasenko, Ольга Андріївна Тарасенко et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2000

Polymorphisms of HLA-A, and -B antigens were investigated in the Kyrgyz population living in the northeastern part of Central Asia. Serological typing for HLA-A and -B loci was performed in 157 healthy unrelated blood donors. The frequent HLA-A antigens were A2 (29.2%), A24 (20.6%), and A1 (10.4%). For HLA-B loci, B51 (10.6%), B17 (9.1%), B13 (8.7%), and B35 (8.5%) were predominant. Multidimensional scaling and phylogenetic analysis were performe…

  • HLA and Human Mate Choice. Tests on Japanese Couples

    Open Access•Yasuo Ihara, Kenichi Aoki et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•2000•Referencias: 2

House mice are apparently more likely to mate with individuals dissimilar to themselves at MHC (major histocompatibility complex) loci than with similar individuals. Such negative assortative mating is thought to be mediated by olfaction. Recently, it has been suggested that huma mate choice may be affected by HLA (human leukocyte antigen; MHC in humans), based on the finding that women prefer the odor of men dissimilar to themselves at HLA loci …

  • HLA class II alleles in Ainu living in Hidaka district, Hokkaido, northern Japan

Open Access•Makoto Bannai, Katsushi Tokunaga et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1996•Referencias: 18

The Ainu people are considered to be the descendants of preagricultural native populations of northern Japan, while the majority of the population of contemporary Japan (Wajin) is descended mainly from postneolithic migrants. Polymorphisms of the HLA-DRB1, DRB3, and DQB1 alleles were investigated in DNA samples of 50 Ainu living in Hidaka district, Hokkaido. Unique features of the Ainu in this study were high incidences of DRB1*1401, DRB1*1406, a…

  • HLA‐DRB1 frequencies of non‐Austronesian‐speaking Gidra in south New Guinea and their genetic affinities with Oceanian populations

Open Access•Maki Yoshida, Ryutaro Ohtsuka et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1995•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 15

DNA typing of HLA‐DRB1 genes was conducted for 192 samples from the Gidra who speak one of the non‐Austronesian languages and inhabit the southern lowlands of New Guinea. Comparison of the allele frequencies with those of eight other Oceanian populations reveals that the Gidra are genetically closest to the non‐Austronesian‐speaking Goroka and, next, to the Aboriginal Australian groups, but are remote from the Austronesian‐speaking groups in main…

  • Population Genetic Study in Hainan Island, China. I. Distribution of Blood Genetic Markers

Open Access•Keiichi Omoto, Momoki HIRAI et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Science•1993

Results obtained in a joint Japanese-Chinese field study in Hainan Island are presented. Three national minority groups, Li, Miao and Hui, together with Han as control were studied. A total of 23 blood genetic markers comprising 9 blood groups, 7 red cell enzymes and 7 serum proteins, and also alpha and beta thalassemias were examined, and phenotype and allele frequencies are tabulated. The distributions of allele frequencies differ markedly amon…

  • DNA typing for HLA-DR using polymerase chain reaction

Open Access•Yoshihisa Watanabe, Miki YOSHIMURA et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Anthropological…•1990

HLA-DR specificities were typed using crude DNA from frozen blood samples. Crude extracts of DNA were prepared by boiling blood samples, and a specific segment of the HLA-DRB gene was amplified in vitro by polymerase chain reaction. After blotting to nylon filters, each specificity was detected by nonradioactively (dig-1l-dUTP)-labeled oligonucleotide probes. The results agreed with serological typing. Moreover, some DR subspecificities defined b…
