The Marco Polo Bridge Incident on 7 July 1937 has been commonly regarded as the beginning of the second Sino-Japanese war. The early days of the war were a history of rapid Japanese advances and, inversely, of the equally fast retreat of the Chinese. The Chinese Nationalist Government evacuated Nanking and moved westward to the Wuhan area in late November 1937. Central China soon became untenable in face of heavy Japanese reinforcements; the Chin…

  • The Role of the Family Planning Association in Hong Kong's Fertility Decline

Ka Ching Chan•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1976

The fertility decline in Hong Kong appears to be the result of 1) the economic and social development achieved during the 1960s which created an environment favorable to the development of a family planning program, and 2) the changes in the practice of and to a lesser extent the attitude toward contraception induced by the Family Planning Association (FPA). The FPA has motivated people to accept family planning services and has provided them wit…

With the notion of extended use effectiveness accidental p…

Reassurance home visits by welfare workers were made to IUD acceptors within 10 days after insertion. Friendly inquiries were made and reassurance was given. Open Access•Ka Ching Chan•ARTICLE•Modern Asian Studies•1971•Cited by: 4•References: 16

The Reorganisation Loan, or as many Chinese writers call the Grand Loan of the Second Year of the Republic of China (Min-erh ta chiehk'uan), arranged by the 'Old Consortium',1played a significant role in Chinese internal affairs in the early twentieth century. The loan has been condemned by Chinese historians, nationalist and communist alike, as one of the ugliest crimes committed by the imperialist powers in China because it enabled Yüan Shih-k'…
