Research on the interrelationship among interpersonal resources was conducted in five cultures: those of Israel, the United States, the Philippines, Sweden, and Spanish-speaking Mexican Americans. In spite of differences in language, instrument format, and age of subjects, the results supported the pattern previously hypothesized on theoretical grounds. These results support the notion that interrelationship of resources may be cross-culturally i…

Recently, six studies carried out in Germany, Sweden and the United States have demonstrated the effects of different types of resources upon preference for one of the following three criteria of distribution : contribution…

It was predicted that the amount of satisfaction following an interpersonal exchange will be higher when the resource given is similar to the one reciprocated, and lower when they are dissimilar. Interpersonal exchange situations were experimentally created in which two independent variables—the resource given by the subject and the resource received by him—were manipulated. Each subject was induced to give a confederate, upon the latter's biddin…

The social institutions of modern technological culture often fail to provide adequate opportunity for the exchange of emotions and personal feelings of affect and esteem. The widespread development of alternative institutions such as sensitivity training can be seen as an attempt to compensate for the scarcity of this type of interpersonal communication. Reasons for this scarcity are examined in terms of a structural model of individual and soci…

The present article reports on a study conducted by the Israel Institute of Applied Social Research in which this line of analysis is totally inapplicable. The authors found by means of scale and intensity analysis that amount of contact was not, in fact, related to the direction of the attit…
