  • Trees, terraces and llamas

    Open Access•M R Frogley, Alex Chepstow-Lusty et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2025•Referencias: 11

The Inca and their immediate predecessors provide an exceptional model of how to create high-altitude functional environments that sustainably feed people with a diversity of crops, whilst mitigating erosion, protecting forestry and maintaining soil fertility without the need for large-scale burning. A comparison is provided here of landscape practices and impacts prior to and after the Inca, derived from a unique 4200-year sedimentary record rec…

  • Documents, Reanalysis, and Global Circulation Models

Philip Gooding, Melissa J Lazenby et al.•PREPRINT•2023•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

This article proposes a novel methodology for reconstructing past climatic conditions in regions and time-periods for which there is limited evidence from documentary and natural proxy sources. Focusing on present-day inland Tanzania during the period 1856–1890, it integrates evidence from qualitative documentary sources with quantitative outputs from climate reanalysis and global circulation models (GCMs), which enables the creation of interdisc…

  • Comparison of Sporormiella dung fungal spores and oribatid mites as indicators of large herbivore presence

    Open Access•Alex J Chepstow-Lusty, Alex Chepstow‐lusty et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2019•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 8

  • Stable isotope records of Late Quaternary climate and hydrology from Mediterranean lakes

Open Access•Neil Roberts, Matthew D Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Science Reviews•2008

  • Evaluating socio-economic change in the Andes using oribatid mite abundances as indicators of domestic animal densities

  • Vegetation and climate change on the Bolivian Altiplano between 108,000 and 18,000 yr ago

    Open Access•Alex Chepstow-Lusty, Alex Chepstow‐lusty et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2005

A 90,000-yr record of environmental change before 18,000 cal yr B.P. has been constructed using pollen analyses from a sediment core obtained from Salar de Uyuni (3653 m above sea level) on the Bolivian Altiplano. The sequence consists of alternating mud and salt, which reflect shifts between wet and dry periods. Low abundances of aquatic species between 108,000 and 50,000 yr ago (such as Myriophyllum and Isoëtes ) and marked fluctuations in Pedi…

  • Duration of Last Interglacial Conditions in Northwestern Greece

    Open Access•Polychronis C Tzedakis, M R Frogley et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2002

A new astronomical calibration method for long pollen records from southern Europe is applied to the last interglacial interval of the Ioannina sequence, northwestern Greece. This shows that the last interglacial in this region, as defined by the presence of forest communities, lasted ca. 15,500 yr, from 127,300 to 111,800 yr B.P. Interglacial conditions developed within marine isotope substage (MIS) 5e and persisted into MIS 5d, lagging changes …

  • A revised chronological and palaeoenvironmental framework for the Kastritsa rockshelter, northwest Greece

    Open Access•Nena Galanidou, Polychronis C Tzedakis et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2000•Citada por: 17•Referencias: 13

Archaeological, palynological and palaeolimnological evidence is combined with new AMS radiocarbon dates to shed new light on a long-known, yet only partially understood, Upper Palaeolithic occupation in southeast Europe
