Evaluation of Pregnancy Prevention Programs in the School Context
This study looks at a primary pregnancy prevention program carried out in cooperation with the Baltimore City School System in an urban junior and senior high school. The program was run by the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Departments of Pediatrics and Gynecology/Obstetrics. It combined education counseling and medical services and operated both in the schools and in an adjacent clinic with staff shared between the sites. A team consisting of…
Black Teenage Pregnancy: A Challenge for Educators
In 1983 minority youths constituted 27% of the adolescent population in the US but they had about 40% of all adolescent births and 57% of births to unmarried teens. In 1982 87% of the 125929 black adolescent births were out of wedlock (for whites it was 38%). Approximately 90% of black teens who give birth choose to keep their babies.
