Reflectance Transformation Imaging for the Recording of Incised Graffiti
Precolumbian Maya graffiti is challenging to document because it is complex, multilayered, and difficult to see with the naked eye. This work addresses varying interpretations of the production, circulation, and consumption of jades in the Maya area from the Preclassic through the Postclassic periods (600b.c.–a.d.1697). Traditionally, exchange of jades has been seen as a dyadic relationship between elites (gifting and tribute). The 2014-2016 Ebola epidemic presented a challenging setting in which to carry out clinical trials. This paper reports findings from social science research carried out in Kambia, Northern Sierra Leone during first year of an Ebola vaccine trial (August 2015-July 2016).
