Family Structure and Youth Gender Ideologies in Germany and South Korea
Although gender ideologies influence many outcomes, research shows they often fluctuate across the life course. Family structure transitions are one mechanism through which gender ideologies change. Divorced and single adults report more egalitarian ideologies than stably married adults. Little research has examined whether children in these families experience similar gender ideologies. Based on parental role modeling, we would expect children i…
Family Structure, Family Transitions, and Child Overweight and Obesity
Growing rates of childhood obesity globally create concern for individuals' health outcomes and demands on health systems. While many policy approaches focus on macro-level interventions, we examine how the type of stability of a family structure might provide opportunities for policy interventions at the micro level. We examine the association between family structure trajectories and childhood overweight and obesity across three Anglophone coun…
The Effect of Parenthood on Care Workers' Earnings
The parenthood wage gap is well-documented in professional work, but we know little about parenthood’s effects on earnings among care workers. As employers may use stereotypes linked to parental identity to determine rewards, care workers may leverage their parental identity to signal appropriateness for work, possibly leading to higher, rather than lower, earnings. At the same time, gender and racial identity may signal different levels of appro…
Location, Location, Location? School District, Length of Residence and Attitudes Toward Diversity and Neighborhood Schools in the Upper South
Attitudes toward diversity and neighborhood schools matter because they underlie many families' decisions for residential location, with consequences for both school systems and students. Case studies of desegregation highlight locational dynamics that influence these outcomes, but differences in theory and methods limit rigorous comparisons among residents across such areas. This study focuses on two under-researched correlates of these preferen…
Does childhood family structure help create stratification in adult education and labor market attainment
Stratification in opportunities for and attainment of educational credentials, stable and well‐paying jobs, wealth, and socioeconomic status causes problems for both individuals and the societies they live in. It is unclear, however, the extent to which important childhood experiences, such as family structure and transitions, shapes opportunity paths and eventual attainment later in adulthood. The intergenerational transmission literature sugges…

Decision-Making in Soviet Weapons Procurement
Prices and the Guideposts
W AGE-PRICE guideposts were part of the government's economic policy from 1962 until the close of the Johnson Administration in 1968.' A particular method of policing the guideposts evolved during this period. The Administration sought, through public and private confrontations, to influence the pricing decisions of firms. We shall describe briefly this policy, propose several alternative hypotheses to explain the resultant behavior of firms, and…
