  • Changing Perceptions of the State Duma

    Warren B Walsh•ARTICLE•The Russian Review•1979

The first historians of the State Duma, writers of official minutes, reports and other documents excluded, probably did not think of themselves as historians but as reporters of current events. Their reports, along with the official documents, private papers, memoirs and polemics among participants, form the basic primary sources for the study of the Duma. This note outlines the approach and methods of a study made by a research team under the author's direction, identifies key problems, and concludes that methods now used in Western studies cannot help us predict "breakthroughs" by Soviet scientists. Professor Walsh, chairman of the department of history at Syracuse University, promises a sequel article on a subsequent approach to the same problem

This book, originally published in 1952, describes and explains the stage of the decline of the Russian Empire between the Crimean and First World Wars. The book is divided up by period: the reign of Alexander II (1855-81), the period of reaction (1881-1905) and the ‘Revolution’ of 1905 and its aftermath (1905-14) and also into three sections: the structure of state and society, political movements and foreign relations

    Warren B Walsh•ARTICLE•Public Opinion Quarterly•1944•Citada por: 2

How much do Americans really know about Russia? What are their attitudes toward what they know or think they know? Warren Walsh's answer to these questions, based on recent polls, are so striking and, in some ways, so contrary to current assumptions that they provide basic reading for those seeking a realistic approach to American Russian relations. Dr. Walsh is an Assistant Proffessor of History at Syracuse University and Chairman of the Syracus…

  • The Imperial Russian General Staff and India

    Warren B Walsh•ARTICLE•The Russian Review•1957•Citada por: 1

ONE of the constants of nineteenth century diplomacy was, every schoolboy knows, Anglo-Russian rivalry sharpening at times into hostility and undermined always by mutual distrust. The same all-knowing schoolboy is also aware that British fears of Russian aggression toward India were also a constant factor in the relations between the two major powers. The Afghan Wars were, of course, outgrowths or manifestations of this general situation. So were…
