  • American Academic Male Economists and Women’s Suffrage

Giandomenica Becchio, Luca Fiorito•ARTICLE•Review of Political Economy•2022•Referências: 7

During the Progressive Era (1890–1920) in the U.S., the debate on women’s enfranchisement involved two opposite sides: detractors (Antis) and supporters. Detractors converged on the idea that women’s enfranchisement might have harmed the natural harmony of society, based on a strict division of roles between sexes. Supporters developed three different arguments: women’s suffrage would have reinforced the democratic system; it would have strengthe…

  • Martha S. Braun

    Giandomenica Becchio•ARTICLE•History of Political Economy•2022•Referências: 21

During the interwar period, Austrian school economists played a fundamental role in establishing marginalism as a central principle of economics. In those years, the role of Mises in Vienna was especially pivotal in building up economics as a science based on the notion of subjective utility within a free institutional framework. As is well known, Mises was surrounded by several colleagues and students who were members of his intellectual circle …

Giandomenica Becchio•BOOK•History of Feminist and Gender…•2019

This book offers a historical exploration of the genesis of feminist economics and gender economics, as well as their theoretical and methodological differences. Its narrative also serves to embed both within a broader cultural context. Although both feminist economics and gender neoclassical economics belong to the cultural process related to the central role of the political economy in promoting women's emancipation and empowerment, they differ…

  • Social Needs, Social Goods, and Human Associations in the Second Edition of Carl Menger's Principles

    Giandomenica Becchio•ARTICLE•History of Political Economy•2014•Citada por: 2•Referências: 19

This article deals with the contents of the second edition of Carl Menger's Principles of Economics (1923), which was neither reprinted in German by Hayek in 1934 nor translated into English by Knight in 1950. My aim is to show that a new Mengerian economic agent can be found in the contents of chapter 1, where Menger dealt with social needs and social goods. I consider this specific contribution of Menger a natural development of his methodologi…

The article is dedicated to the work of a group of economists that was an important expression of a fertile season of Italian economics, in the period from the mid-1890s to the end of 1930s, which developed around the figure of Luigi Einaudi, and earlier, around that of his master Cognetti de Martiis. This School expressed a range of thought of high value in the political and economic sphere. In the economic field, the School established a fertil…
