This study examined the effects of a declining economy on the profession of chartered accountants (CAs) in Zimbabwe. The study adopted a qualitative approach using a pragmatic grounded theory design. This article focuses on women legal practitioners in Zimbabwe. Despite extensive legislation outlawing gender‐based discrimination, Zimbabwean women have not been able to achieve equality in the workplace. Research on domestic work in South Africa has largely focused on the employee, however, here we focus on the ‘madam’ and explore the way in which the workspace of the domestic worker and the ‘private’ space of the employer are constructed. The paper focuses on the domestic workers’ place in the Indian Muslim madam's space, revealing the contradictory nature of the home as a personal space for the employer and a workplace for the domestic worker. …

This article examines the way in which the modality of the political violence between Inkatha and the United Democratic Front politicised space in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Drawing on research work conducted in the city of Durban, this article demonstrates that, to a large extent, policing functions are being carried out by agents other than the police. The article explores community safety groupings operating in three diverse areas in the greater Durban area.
