  • Palaeoenvironmental record of the Cal Maurici wetland sediment archive in Barcelona (NE Iberian Peninsula) between c. 6000 and 4000 cal. yr BP

    Open Access•Joan Daura, M Sanz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016

This study presents the results of a multi-proxy analysis conducted to improve our understanding of the palaeoenvironmental conditions of the freshwater and brackish marshes of Cal Maurici (Barcelona, Spain) and the human impact on them during the mid-Holocene (6171–3891 cal. yr BP). The study integrates data from pollen, phytolith, diatom, charcoal, seeds and malacological analyses and helps to reconstruct the ecological conditions during the ea…

  • Human Capital Inequality, Life Expectancy and Economic Growth

    Open Access•Amparo Castelló‐Climent, Rafael Doménech•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2008•Citada por: 5•Referências: 52

This paper presents a model in which inequality affects per capita income when individuals decide to invest in education taking into account their life expectancy, which depends to a large extent on the human capital of their parents. Our results show the existence of multiple steady states depending on the initial distribution of education. The low steady state is a poverty trap in which children raised in poor families have low life expectancy …

  • Human Capital in Growth Regressions

Open Access•Angel De La Fuente, Rafael Doménech•ARTICLE•Journal of the European Economic…•2006

We construct estimates of educational attainment for a sample of 21 OECD countries. Our series incorporate previously unexploited information and remove sharp breaks in the data that can only reflect changes in classification criteria. We then construct indicators of the information content of our estimates and a number of previously available data sets and examine their performance in several growth specifications. We find a clear positive corre…

  • Estimating Potential Output, Core Inflation, and the Nairu as Latent Variables

Rafael Doménech, Víctor Gómez et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2006

This article proposes a new method to obtain estimates of the NAIRU, the core inflation rate, and the trend investment rate for the United States using an unobserved components model that is compatible with the usual decomposition of real gross domestic product into trend and cycle. The model includes Okun's law, a forward-looking Phillips curve, and an accelerator-type investment equation and accounts for some volatility breaks in two components…

  • Fiscal Policy, Macroeconomic Stability and Finite Horizons

Open Access•Javier Andrés, Rafael Doménech et al.•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2006•Referências: 2

In this paper we analyse the stabilisation properties of distortionary taxes in a new‐Keynesian model with overlapping generations of finitely lived consumers. In this framework, government debt is part of net wealth and this adds a number of interesting channels through which fiscal policy could affect output and inflation. Output volatility, in the presence of technology shocks, is not substantially affected by the operation of automatic stabil…

  • Human Capital Inequality and Economic Growth

    Open Access•Amparo Castelló, Rafael Doménech•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2002•Citada por: 48•Referências: 26

This paper provides new measures of human capital inequality for a broad panel of countries. Taking attainment levels from Barro and Lee (2001), we compute Gini coefficients and the distribution of education by quintiles for 108 countries over five‐year intervals from 1960 to 2000. Using this new cross‐country data on human capital inequality two main conclusions are obtained. First, most countries in the world have tended to reduce the inequalit…

  • The Redistributive Effects of the EU Budget

Open Access•Angel De La Fuente, Rafael Doménech•ARTICLE•JCMS Journal of Common Market…•2001•Citada por: 11

This article analyses the redistributive effects of the EU budget during the period 1986–98, explores the implications of the Berlin budget agreement, and advances a proposal for setting member countries' budgetary balances in a manner that is consistent with a simple equity criterion based on relative income per capita without sacrificing other policy goals
