This paper studies productivity convergence to the regional and national frontiers among manufacturing firms in India, using panel data over the period 1999 to 2010. Uganda has made significant progress in reducing policy-induced anti-export bias in its trade policy in the 1990s. This paper sets out a method for measuring and comparing the specialisation gains from trade in intermediate goods and final goods, based upon a vertically integrated sectors (VIS) modelling approach. The estimation of ‘true protection’
Policy appraisal and the structure of protection in a low‐income developing country
The article provides estimates of the structure of nominal and effective tariffs and the tariff equivalents of a set of quantitative import restrictions for Burundi, a low‐income, data‐deficient developing country. It carefully indicates the assumptions and limitations of the analysis. The overall conclusion of the article is that not much significance can be attached to the estimates in a cardinal sense. Fiscal dependence on trade taxes and trade policy reform
The article focuses on fiscal implications of Structural Adjustment Loans (SALs), from an a priori standpoint and by reference to the experience of five countries. Three of these countries have had revenue enhancement after trade policy reforms, and the other two cases experienced revenue depletion.
