Religion and Magic in Roman Corinth
This chapter explores some aspects of the interplay of religion and magic in Roman Corinth. It primarily focuses on the Sanctuary of Demeter and Kore on the northern slopes of Acrocorinth beginning in the early years of the newly-founded Roman colony. Apollo and the Archaic Temple at Corinth
After a detailed examination of the literary, epigraphic, and archaeological evidence, the authors argue that the prominent Archaic Doric temple at Corinth was dedicated to Apollo. It is this temple with its bronze statue that Pausanias (2.3.6) saw on his right as he left the area of the forum, taking the road to Sikyon. A church with a Roman inscription in Tairia, Monemvasia
In Tairia, at a distance of about 10 km from Monemvasia, is a small complex of two Byzantine churches, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin and Ag. Anna. Each has a simple one-aisled plan covered by a barrel vault with an intermediate arch. Wall paintings exist in both churches dating from the twelfth, the thirteenth century, and later.
