    Open Access•Garry A Gelade•ARTICLE•Cross-Cultural Research•2015•Citada por: 2•Referências: 32

This article examines home advantage (HA) in association football (soccer). HA is the tendency for teams to perform better when playing on their home ground than when playing away. National variations in HA are found to be related to national cultural and social characteristics. HA tends to be elevated in countries with high levels of collectivism and in-group favoritism, and in countries where governance is prone to corruption and where the rule…

  • Personality and place

    Open Access•Garry A Gelade•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2013•Citada por: 3•Referências: 29

This paper examines the distribution of national personality dimensions in geographical space. The relationship between geographical location and aggregate personality in a wide range of nations is quantified using spatial autocorrelation, and it is found that the personalities of nations that are geographical neighbours are more similar than those that are far apart. The five factors of both the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) and t…

    Open Access•Garry A Gelade, Paul Dobson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2008•Citada por: 6•Referências: 43

The authors examine the dependence of organizational commitment on satisfaction with job characteristics that are valued differently in 29 nations. Evidence is found for the moderating effects of national culture. Satisfaction with job characteristics that are highly valued in individualistic cultures has an increasingly strong effect on commitment as national individualism increases, while satisfaction with collectivist job characteristics has a…

OLS regression was used to predict the performance ratings of 201 national teams. Results. The results s…

  • National Differences In Organizational Commitment

    Open Access•Garry A Gelade, Paul Dobson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2006•Citada por: 4•Referências: 39

This article examines organizational commitment in a sample of 49 countries. Affective commitment (AC) varies significantly by country and is strongly related to dimensions of personality. AC is high in countries where the population is extravert and low in countries where the population is neurotic. Consistent with the notion that high extraversion and low neuroticism are indicative of positive affect, AC is also found to be high in countries wh…
