A small catarrhine talus from the middle Miocene Nachola, northern Kenya
Retrodeformation and functional anatomy of a cranial thoracic vertebra in Nacholapithecus kerioi
Femoral neck cortical bone distribution in Nacholapithecus from the Middle Miocene of Kenya
Functional anatomy and adaptation of the third to sixth thoracic vertebrae in primates using three-dimensional geometric morphometrics
Functional interpretation of primate's trunk by studying musculoskeletal morphology and motion analysis
New femoral remains of Nacholapithecus kerioi
Sexual dimorphism of body size in an African fossil ape, Nacholapithecus kerioi
A new species of Mioeuoticus (Lorisiformes, Primates) from the early Middle Miocene of Kenya
We here describe a prosimian specimen discovered from the early Middle Miocene (~15 Ma) of Nachola, northern Kenya. It is a right maxilla that preserves P4–M3, and is assigned to a new species of the Miocene lorisid genus Mioeuoticus. Previously, Mioeuoticus was known from the Early Miocene of East Africa. The Nachola specimen is therefore the first discovery of this genus from the Middle Miocene. The presence of a new lorisid species in the Nach…
Carpal bones of N acholapithecus kerioi , a Middle Miocene Hominoid From N orthern K enya
OBJECTIVES: The carpal bones of the middle Miocene hominoid Nacholapithecus kerioi are described based on new materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The materials comprise a trapezoid, three capitates, two hamates, a centrale, a lunate, a triquetrum, and a pisiform, collected during the 2001 and 2002 field seasons from Nachola, Kenya. We also describe a pisiform recently assigned to the type specimen of N. kerioi, KNM-BG 35250. RESULTS: In the Nachola…
Sacral vertebral remains of the Middle Miocene hominoid Nacholapithecus kerioi from northern Kenya
Morphology of the thoracolumbar spine of the middle Miocene hominoid Nacholapithecus kerioi from northern Kenya
Hind limb of the Nacholapithecus kerioi holotype and implications for its positional behavior
We present the definitive description of the hind limb elements of the Nacholapithecus kerioi holotype (KNM-BG 35250) from the middle Miocene of Kenya. Previously, it has been noted that the postcranial (i.e. the phalanges, spine, and shoulder girdle) anatomy of N. kerioi shows greater affinity to other early/middle Miocene African hominoids, collectively called 'non-specialized pronograde arboreal quadrupeds,' than to extant hominoids. This was …
Functional morphology and anatomy of cervical vertebrae in Nacholapithecus kerioi, a middle Miocene hominoid from Kenya
Quantitative analysis of variation in muscle internal parameters in crab-eating macaques (Macaca fascicularis)
The internal parameters of muscle used to calculate physiological cross-sectional area (PCSA), i.e. muscle mass (MM), muscle fascicle length (MFL), and muscle pennation angle (θ), were investigated for 23 forelimbs dissected carefully from 12 crab-eating macacques (Macaca fascicularis). The aims of this study were (1) to investigate how the postures of the limbs stored in formalin affect the muscle internal parameters (MM, MFL, θ) required to cal…
Geometric characters of the radius and tibia in Macaca mulatta and Macaca fascicularis
Bone Cross-sectional Properties in the Five Species of Macaque Genera
Quantitative analyses of cross-sectional shape of the distal radius in three species of macaques
Bone mineral density in chimpanzees, humans, and Japanese macaques
A longitudinal study on hand and wrist skeletal maturation in chimpanzees ( Pan troglodytes ), with emphasis on growth in linear dimensions
Age-Change of Bone Mineral Density in the Distal Radius of Chimpanzees and Japanese Macaques
Using peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT), we evaluated and analyzed age-related changes in bone mineral density and other properties at the site of the distal radius in two catarrhines: chimpanzees and Japanese macaques. We found that the age changes in patterns are quite similar between the two species and the patterns are composed of three stages. Quantitative differences were found between the two species in the amount of bone …
