This study examined the effects of motivation on the content and structure of narratives. Forty triads of participants engaged in a 15-minute teamwork task. • Two's Company

    Cecilia H Solano, Mina Dunnam•ARTICLE•Social Psychology Quarterly•1985•Citada por: 3

This study hypothesizes that self-disclosure is affected by the social context of the disclosure, specifically the size of the group. Thirty-three male and female undergraduates were assigned to converse in same-sex groups of either two, three, or four persons. Both subjective measures (perceived willingness to disclose) and objective measures (duration of disclosure, intimacy of disclosure, nonverbal involvement, reciprocity of disclosure) were …

  • Self-Concept in Mathematically Gifted Adolescents

    Cecilia H Solano•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1983•Citada por: 2•Referências: 1

Much research has been done on the personality characteristics of children identified as gifted on general intelligence measures. Past research, however, has suggested that personality may vary as a function of the specific area of giftedness, the absolute level of giftedness, and the sex of the adolescent. Mathematical ability is of particular interest, since this ability area is usually stereotyped as being more appropriate for males, and may h…

  • Two Measures of Loneliness

    Open Access•Cecilia H Solano•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1980

Researchers have long neglected the topic of loneliness. One reason has been the lack of adequate measures. Recently, however, several scales have been developed which seem promising. The present research compares two such scales, the UCLA Loneliness Scale and the Belcher Extended Loneliness Scale. 151 male and 107 female undergraduates filled out both scales in a random order. The analyses showed that both scales are highly internally consistent…

  • Actor-Observer Differences in Attribution

    Open Access•Cecilia H Solano•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1979

Nisbett, et al., (1973) presented evidence that male actors use more situational than dispositional explanations for their own behavior and use more dispositional than situational attributions for their best friend. The present study replicated this finding for male actors ( n = 41), and demonstrates that female actors ( n = 41) produce the same pattern. A close examination of this data and Nisbett, et al.'s shows, however, that a different inter…
