This essay gives an empirical overview of the main trends in the business activities, organizational structures, and inter- and intragroup relationships of Japanese organized crime (essentially monopolized by groups known collectively as yakuza) over the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Experimental tests of Rawls's theory were conducted to generate some empirical data to compare with similar studies done in the United States and Poland by Norm Frohlich and Joe Oppenheimer. Reflections on Aaron Levine's Economics and Jewish Law
Aaron Levine, in his book Economics and Jewish Law: Halakhic Perspectives, makes a strong case for the relevance of biblical ethics to modern policy concerns. His arguments, while persuasive at one level, are more problematic when he attempts to derive specific insights for the governance of modern capitalism. Economic Growth in a Transfer Society
Economic growth occurs when individuals of a society engage in productive, positive-sum games. Conventional measures of growth, however, include measures of positive- and negative-sum games. This paper establishes a framework for distinguishing between productive (positive-sum) and transfer (negative-sum) activity. The role of the Constitution in promoting productive activity is discussed
