The article advances our understanding of “identifications,” such as race, class, gender, familial, and religious, which are seen as active processes continuously reconstituted through interactions (with objects, technologies, discourses, and bodies) in assemblages. “Identitarian articulations” represent the unique entanglements of these identifications within different assemblages. In Homo Sacer, Giorgio Agamben argues that the foundational dichotomy of politics is to be found in the separation of an ‘inside’ from an ‘outside.’ It is our contention that homo sacer is a useful tool for assessing the sacrificial quality of life under unequal social systems. We use the 2020 incident of the police shooting of Jacob Blake followed by Black Lives Matter protests and the subsequent murder of several activists by Kyle Rittenhouse as a case study to update the Althusserian theory of interpellation using Deleuzian concepts and the idea of “identitarian articulations.” Specifically, we aim to think more about the capacity to accept or reject an interpellation, and who has those capacities, and why. On February 23rd, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man out for a jog in Georgia, was murdered by two white men who, acting as vigilantes, assumed Arbery was responsible for recent burglaries. Towards an affective understanding of processes of racialization
In this article, we apply developments from the affective turn—in particular, the concept of assemblages—to understand the relationship between race, affect, and emotions. We use the example of a Black CEO unsuccessfully hailing a taxi to show how race materializes with different intensities in specific settings, and how this operates in assemblage theory. We show that the emotion of “fear” plays a particularly important role in conditioning the …

In Mexico, Catholicism and national identity are deeply intertwined through what we call a process of articulation. The Importance of Photo-interviewing as a Research Method in the Study of Identity Construction Processes
The purpose of this article is to promote the use of a methodology not widely used in contemporary social sciences: what is usually called “photo elicitation” but which I prefer to call “photo-interviewing,” in order to remove the idea behind the word “elicitation,” i.e., that one will “elicit” something from people by showing pictures to them and asking for comments.
