Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) use and dependence
Objective: This study aims to explore the perceived dependence on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools among young adults and examine the relative reinforcing value of AI chatbots use compared to monetary rewards, applying a behavioral economics approach. Participants/methods: A total of 420 university students from Bogotá, Colombia, participated in an online survey. The study employed a Multiple Choice Procedure (MCP) to assess the r…
Social media sites users' choice between utilitarian and informational reinforcers assessed using temporal discounting
Objective: This study provides a first approach to the use of the Multiple-Choice Procedure in social media networks use, as well as empirical evidence for the application of the Behavioral Perspective Model to digital consumption behavior in young users in conjunction with a methodology based on behavioral economics. Participants/methods: The participants were part of a large university in Bogotá, Colombia, and they received an academic credit o…
Vaccine Refusal
Many people who generally receive standard recommended inoculations refuse to partake of COVID-19 vaccines, preventatives that are effective, safe, and life-saving amidst the current pandemic. Our quest is to understand this puzzling and dangerous phenomenon, as it exists among US and UK citizens, whom in other respects would be regarded as quite regular. We will discuss Vaccine Refusal compared with two better understood phenomena: addiction, an…
On the empirical psychology of success semantics for pragmatic representations
Psychology’s emphasis on empirical investigation has long benefited from conceptual developments taking place in its intellectual community, but also from cognate areas in Philosophy. This paper explores the implications for empirical psychology of a recent conceptual proposal advanced within the philosophy of perception by Bence Nanay. In particular, Nanay proposes that “pragmatic representations”, i.e., perceptual representations of the propert…
Accounting for Sustained Volunteering by Young People
This study tested an expanded TBP model, which included personal norms and self-identity as cognitive variables, in a sample of current young volunteers of a general charity in the UK. Actual volunteering was measured via continued observation throughout the duration of the projects. An integrative model of sustained volunteering was proposed because some relationships did not follow the hypothesized paths. Subjective norm emerged as the exclusiv…

Adaption-Innovation and Domain-Specific Innovativeness
Reported is a study of the relationship between a global measure of adaption-innovation (Kirton's Adaption-Innovation Inventory) and a domain-specific measure of consumers' innovativeness (Goldsmith and Hofacker's Domain Specific Innovativeness Scale). For a convenience sample of 26 adult consumers there was, as expected, no significant correlation between scores on the two scales

Gender Differences in Cognitive Styles of Mba Students in Three Countries
Differences between the scores of male and female respondents, 115 British, 123 Australian, and 131 American midcareer MBA students, confirm propositions derived from Kirton's adaption-innovation theory to the effect that individuals who diverge most from social norms will be among the most innovative members of their group
Adaptive-innovative cognitive styles of Australian managers
This paper describes an empirical investigation of Australian midcareer managers which was suggested by Kirton's (1976) theory of adaptive-innovative cognitive style. Two hypotheses were tested: (a) that broadly defined managerial functions can be subdivided on the basis of their internal or external task orientations, and (b) that the cognitive styles of members of the resultant subfunctions will be either predominantly adaptive or predominantly…

The hypothesis was tested that broadly-defined managerial functions can be sub-divided on the basis of their members' internal and external task orientations, and that the resulting subfunctions are, respectively, predominantly “adaptive” or “innovative” in terms derived from Kirton's adaption-innovation theory. Data from samples of British (N = 115) and Australian (N = 123) mid-career managers undertaking MBA programs who completed the Kirton Ad…

Social Factors in Consumer Choice
The general conclusions of Rich and Jain (1968), which question the usefulness of life cycle and social class concepts as predictors of consumer behavior, are challenged. Data for food products and durables suggest a more positive association
