We employed key informant interviews to explore the attitudes, practices, and preferences of four physician specialties. Design of a Case Management Approach to Enhance Cancer Screening Trial Retention Among Older African American Men
The case managers served as links between participants and community-based resources. The types of referrals made could be associated with the age-related needs of the participants
Exploring the Factorial Structure of the EORTC QLQ-C30
Participants were not screened for cancer or other illnesses, which may contribute to differences between the known scoring model and these results. Researchers are advised to conduct separate analyses on racial/ethnic groups and to supplement the QLQ-C30 with additional items pertinent to the populations being studied and/or the conceptual/theoretical paradigm being tested
Perceptions of Diabetes Among Patients in an Urban Health Care System
Perceptions of diabetes may vary by race, even when controlling for SES. Health professionals are in a unique position to develop diabetes management programs to help patients understand more about their diabetes, and thus to reduce some of the negative outcomes of diabetes by promoting adherence to recommended treatment regimens. This study demonstrates that post-intervention, both African American and Caucasian study participants showed a decrease in emergency department visits and an increase in asthma self-management. This finding is especially important for African Americans, who face increasing asthma mortality and morbidity
