Social, Digital and Community Capital Facilitated Covid-19 Pandemic Resilience in a Qualitative Survey of Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Concerns
The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected known dementia risk factors and cognition in older adults. Our objective was to explore how older adults with cognitive concerns (ie, MCI or SCD) were able, or not able to engage in lifestyle activities associated with dementia prevention and maintain their wellbeing. We invited adults with mild cognitive concerns without dementia, aged ≥60 years participating in a randomised controlled trial of a psychos…
Exposure to Nearby Homicides and Young Women's Reproductive Lives during the Transition to Adulthood
We merge information on the date and location of homicides in Flint, MI with georeferenced weekly panel data from the Relationship Dynamics and Social Life study to assess how and why nearby homicides immediately impact young women's risk of pregnancy. Women's probability of conceiving a pregnancy increased in weeks when homicides occurred within .25 miles of their homes relative to in other weeks. This increase in pregnancy risk reflected decrea…
Time to reflect is a rare and valued opportunity; a pilot of the Nidus‐professional dementia training intervention for homecare workers during the Covid‐19 pandemic
Most people living with dementia want to continue living in their own home for as long as possible and many rely on support from homecare services to do so. There are concerns that homecare often fails to meet the needs of clients with dementia, but there is limited evidence regarding effective interventions to improve its delivery for this client group. We aimed to assess whether a co-designed, 6-session dementia training intervention for homeca…
The social context of retrospective-prospective changes in pregnancy desire during the transition to adulthood
Researchers have questioned the accuracy of retrospective measures of unintended pregnancy, which ask women whether they wanted a pregnancy before it was conceived
Sexual Concurrency and Contraceptive Use Among Young Adult Women
Leveraging 2.5 years of weekly data from the Relationship Dynamics and Social Life Study, we investigate the relationship between young women’s sexual concurrency and their contraceptive behavior. Specifically, we (1) examine whether young women changed their contraceptive use when switching from one to multiple concurrent sexual partners in the same week; (2) explore the uniformity of contraceptive responses to concurrency across relationship co…
Dimensions of Reproductive Attitudes and Knowledge Related to Unintended Childbearing Among U.S. Adolescents and Young Adults
Measures of attitudes and knowledge predict reproductive behavior, such as unintended fertility among adolescents and young adults. However, there is little consensus as to the underlying dimensions these measures represent, how to compare findings across surveys using different measures, or how to interpret the concepts captured by existing measures. To guide future research on reproductive behavior, we propose an organizing framework for existi…

The risk of unintended pregnancy among young women with mental health symptoms
Pregnancy scares and subsequent unintended pregnancy
BACKGROUND: A substantial number of young women experience pregnancy scares - thinking they might be pregnant, and later discovering that they are not. Although pregnancy scares are distressing events, little is known about who experiences them and whether they are important to our understanding of unintended pregnancy. OBJECTIVE: We describe the young women who experience pregnancy scares, and examine the link between pregnancy scares and subseq…
PP45 Developing Recommendations to Improve the Effectiveness of Multidisciplinary Team Meetings for Patients with Chronic Diseases
Background Multidisciplinary team meetings (MDMs) have been endorsed by the Department of Health as the core model for managing chronic diseases. It is believed that MDMs ensure higher quality decision making and improved outcomes. However, the evidence underpinning the development of MDMs is not strong and the degree to which MDMs have been absorbed into clinical practice varies widely across conditions and settings. We conducted a large mixed-m…
OP92 Improving the Effectiveness of Multidisciplinary Team Meetings for Patients with Chronic Diseases
Background Department of Health policy states that health care for chronic diseases should be delivered through multidisciplinary team meetings (MDMs). It is known that multidisciplinary teams should include certain features (for example commitment to leadership) to be effective. But additional factors need to be considered: e.g. the context in which MDMs operate, group decision processes, and patient related factors such as their preferences and…
Do perceptions of neighbourhood environment influence health? Baseline findings from a British survey of aging
Objectives: To investigate the relation between perceived neighbourhood environment, social contact and support, and self efficacy, on the health of older people. Design: British cross sectional population survey of people aged 65 and over. Participants: 999 people aged 65 plus living at home in Britain. Results: Regression modelling showed that high self efficacy had a strong independent association with better self rated health status and physi…
