  • Paris as a gateway? Spatial inequalities in immigrant integration across French regions

Open Access•Michel Dimou, Kevin Randy Chemo Dzukou et al.•ARTICLE•Papers of the Regional Science…•2025•Referências: 15

This paper examines the labor market performance of immigrants and their descendants in France by estimating a series of empirical Tobit II models for the Paris region and the rest of the country. The analysis focuses on two central outcomes—labor force participation and wage disparities—comparing the experiences of first- and second-generation immigrants with those of native-born individuals. The models include a comprehensive set of individual-…

  • Testing the ecological footprint of economic growth in developing countries. The case of Vietnam

Open Access•Minh‐Quang Nguyen, Michel Dimou et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of International…•2024

This study focuses on the relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation, by testing the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis in Vietnam, a main export‐oriented country that features a long period of economic growth. The main originality of this work is that, unlike previous studies, it uses ecological footprint as the main indicator for environmental degradation. This allows to reconsider the results from previous studies t…

  • Urban Trends and Economic Development in China: Geography Matters

    Open Access•Michel Dimou, Alexandra Schaffar•ARTICLE•Current Urban Studies•2014

The aim of this paper is to document the role of spatial effects in the relationship between urban trends and economic development in China, between 1984 and 2004. During this period the Chi-nese urban system experienced dramatic changes, with significant rural-urban, intra-provincial and interprovincial migration, mainly after the 1993 reforms that eased the former Hukou rule and abolished the prevailing cross-region labor mobility restrictions.…

  • La croissance économique dans les Départements français d'outre-mer: Une revue de la littérature

    Michel Dimou, Alexandra Schaffar•ARTICLE•Tiers-Monde•2014•Citada por: 1•Referências: 20

• Rank-size City Dynamics in China and India, 1981–2004

    Alexandra Schaffar, Michel Dimou•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2010•Citada por: 9•Referências: 3

n By using empirical evidence based on data from India and China between 1981 and 2004, this paper studies the dynamic patterns of urban hierarchies within the two most populated countries in the world. The paper focuses on three specific issues: the distributional form of the rank-size relation, the urban growth patterns which do not reject Gibrat?s law for cities and, finally, the shifts in urban hierarchies for both countries during these two …

  • Urban Hierarchies and City Growth in the Balkans

    Open Access•Michel Dimou, Alexandra Schaffar•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2009•Citada por: 1•Referências: 25

This paper uses empirical evidence from the Balkan peninsula during the 1981—2001 period, in order to study the dynamic patterns of a conflict-affected city-size distribution. By examining the time variations of the Pareto exponent on the one hand and by exploring cities’ relative growth patterns and intradistribution mobility on the other, the paper shows that city growth dynamics follow a ‘hybrid’ pattern, where city size filters the effects of…
