The Relational Body
From Seekers of Truth to Masters of Power
This article proposes an allegorical reading of a Turkish TV serial to allow an assessment of the politico-cultural atmosphere of the ephemeral present. This present is defined as a world of post-truth where competing universalisms produce a condition of antithetical truths, each of which claims to be the only possible truth. Mediated Fantasies of the Family on Turkish Television
This paper proposes to study TV serials as instances of a nationally sanctioned fantasy of the family. They set out, in an exaggerated mode, everyday problems encountered in families and thus allow viewers to negotiate between their own realities and the norm and follow the resolution offered by the serials to issues of family and desire. This paper is about the process of constituting public memory and subjectivity in the context of post-colonial transformation. It hopes to raise a number of questions about the context in which memory is produced and how context affects the way such memory is then transmitted.
