Early history of parasitic diseases in northern dogs revealed by dog paleofeces from the 9000-year-old frozen Zhokhov site in the New Siberian Islands of East Siberian Arctic
Archaeoparasitology and pathoecology of Buchta Nakhodka, a medieval settlement in the far north of Western Siberia, dating from the 13th century
Results of the Archaeoparasitological Study of the Roman Settlement of Myrmekion
The article presents the findings from an archaeoparasitological study of soil samples collected from the drainage and pavement of the Roman settlement of Myrmekion, located in the modern city of Kerch (Eastern Crimea). The soil samples revealed eggs from four types of intestinal parasites that infect humans and domestic animals. The presence of geohelminth eggs, specifically Trichuris trichiura and Ascaris lumbricoides, indicates that the settle…
The first archaeoparasitological data on the Russian rural population in Western Siberia in the 18th–19th centuries
The life of the long-established Russian inhabitants of Western Siberia has been well described. In fact, archaeological, ethnographic, and other information on its various aspects is abundant. Archaeoparasitological data, on the other hand, is lacking, particularly with regard to parasitosis incidence. In the present study, eggs of such fish parasites as Opisthorchis felineus and Diphyllobothrium spp. were identified in soil samples taken from t…
Interdisciplinary research of ash heap sediment near Stepnoye settlement (Chelyabinsk Oblast)
An ash heap is defined as a specific object at an archaeological site, usually in the form of a separate hillock containing a layer of finely-dispersed greyish-yellow or ash-coloured soil. The existing assumptions about the formation and functional pur-pose of ash heaps, as special archaeological objects found near the Bronze Age pastoral settlements, have so far been poorly supported by scientific data. At the ash heap near the Sintashta fortifi…
Results of Archaeoparasitological and Palynological Research Conducted on Cultural Layers of the Artesian Ancient Settlement (Eastern Crimea)
The article presents the results of archaeoparasitological and palynological research of the cultural layers located in the ancient Artesian settlement in the Eastern Crimea. The study revealed the species composition of parasites and palynological spectrum in the cultural layers. Parasite eggs distribution over the layers indicates high content of eggs in almost all periods of the citadel’s existence. High abundance of geohelminth eggs in the st…
Archaeoparasitological data and pathoecology of the town of Mangazeya in Western Siberia in the 17th century
New contribution of archaeoparasitology in the Far North of Eastern Siberia
Microbiomarkers of the local environment and interior of Neolithic and Eneolithic dwellings (settlements of Mergen 6 and 7)
The paper concerns the analysis of the local environment around the multi-layer settlements of Mergen 6 and 7 situated in the immediate vicinity of each other. The settlements existed successively (partly contempora-neously in the early and high Neolithic) in the forest-steppe belt of Western Siberia. Two methods were chosen to obtain the results: spore-and-pollen (palynological) and microbiomorphic analyses of the cultural layers of the settleme…
Paleoanthropology of Saka Tribes of Alai in the Context of the Early Iron Age Populations of Adjacent Territories
The article attempts to generalize the paleoanthropological data of the Saka period from the territory of Alai (Kyrgyzstan), collected over a long period, and a significant part of these materials has been offered for scientific discussion. Comparison of the male and female groups shows their significant similarity, both in average values and in the level and direction of variability. The Alai skulls contain two morphological complexes of charact…

Archaeoparasitological analysis of soil samples from Sarmatian Burial Ground Kovalevka I, 2nd–1st centuries BСE, Russia
Vegetation and Climate of the Iset-Tobol Interfluve From the Eneolithic to the Early Iron Age
The article analyses new data, which provides the opportunity to reconstruct the natural environment of peo-ple in the Tobol area (forest-steppe zone of Western Siberia) in the 3rd-1st millennia BC. The authors consider the issue associated with the consistency between off-site pollen data and on-site palynological data, as well as how correctly they reflect natural conditions defining the living environment of the ancient population. Materials f…
The Andreеvskoye Lake System at the Turn of the Bronze and Early Iron Ages
On the basis of complex paleogeographic studies, we have created a large-scale paleo-landscape map covering the territory of the Andreevskoye lake flow system, in-between the Tura and the Pyshma rivers (West Sibe
The Buchta-Nakhodka 2 burial ground
Archaeoparasitological and palynological analysis of samples from the intestinal contents of a child mummy from the Zeleniy Yar burial ground (12-13th centuries AD)
Residential Landscape
This article addresses one of the most important issues in landscape archaeology, i.e. the landscape prefe-rences of ancient populations depending on the patterns of nature management that these peopled used. Since forest-steppe regions are characterized by a mosaic plant cover, the appearance of residential landscapes — the natural environment around ancient settlements — can be restored using paleo-economic population models. This work is aimed…
Trichuris trichiurain the mummified remains of southern Siberian nomads
Еnvironmental Conditions in the Transition Period Between the Bronze and the Iron Age in the Ishim River Basin, Western Siberia (According to the on-Site Paleobotanical Data From the Settlement of Mar…

Paleoparasitological analysis of soil samples from the Kikki-Akki burial ground of the 17th–19th centuries in West Siberia, Russia
Ancient agriculture in Western Siberia
The problem relating to the emergence of ancient agriculture and the specifi c character of its development in Western Siberia is considered on the basis of paleobotanical data analysis. This article provides information on basic methods of searching and identifying phytoliths, grains (or grain prints), and pollen of domesticated cereals, as well as evaluates the feasibility for using these techniques in examining this problem. Currently known pa…
