    Open Access•Marcin M Przybyła, Janusz Kruk et al.•ARTICLE•Documenta Praehistorica•2026

As part of a new research project at the famous site in Bronocice, Pińczów County (SE Poland), preliminary work, including magnetic prospecting, was conducted in 2020. This provided a new understanding of the Eneolithic settlement, significantly enhancing the data from excavations in the 1970s. The magnetic survey covered an area of over 50ha, enabling the identification of all three main zones of the site. The layout of ditches associated with d…

  • Religion- and Spirituality-Based Effects on Health-Related Components with Special Reference to Physical Activity

Open Access•Janusz Kruk, Basil Hassan Aboul-Enein•ARTICLE•Religions•2024

The positive effects of religion and/or spirituality through faith-based interventions on health and promoting health programs have been well documented over the last two decades. Research indicates that faith-related programs can motivate increased physical activity, among other behaviors. This review summarizes the literature on how religion and spirituality beliefs and practices support physical, mental, and psychosocial health, focusing prima…

  • Archaeological Investigations on Neolithic and Bronze Age Sites in Southeastern Poland

Sarunas Milisauska, Sarunas Milisauskas et al.•CHAPTER•Case Studies in European Prehistory•2023

This chapter summarizes the results of an archaeological project in Poland conducted by the State University of New York at Buffalo and the Polish Academy of Sciences. The major obstacle for any American institution planning to conduct research in Poland was obtaining permission from the local authorities to conduct archaeological excavations. The goals of the Olszanica excavations evolved over two or three years. Many ideas came from the vigorou…

  • A comparative review of nutrition education intervention duration and impact on reduction of prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes mellitus among adults aged 45 years or older

Open Access•Christa Corgatelli, Elizabeth Dodge et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2022

Prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasingly prevalent and both conditions have a variety of comorbidities. There are many programs aimed at the reduction or prevention of prediabetes and/or T2DM. However, only a few studies have evaluated the effect of intervention duration and evidence-based frameworks on specific populations at risk for prediabetes or T2DM. This review evaluated evidence-based lifestyle intervention programs…

  • Maternal genetic origin of the late and final Neolithic human populations from present‐day Poland

Open Access•Anna Juras, Edvard Ehler et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2021•Citada por: 1•Referências: 56

OBJECTIVE: We aim to identify maternal genetic affinities between the Middle to Final Neolithic (3850-2300 BC) populations from present-day Poland and possible genetic influences from the Pontic steppe. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted ancient DNA studies from populations associated with Złota, Globular Amphora, Funnel Beaker, and Corded Ware cultures (CWC). We sequenced genomic libraries on Illumina platform to generate 86 complete ancient mi…

  • Journeys of the mind

    Open Access•Kathryn M Hudson, Janusz Kruk et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2020•Referências: 13

Although the notion that the past was populated by cultural spheres containing relatively homogenous populations is pervasive, nuanced considerations of intra-culture variability allow for the recognition of local or regional identities that were simultaneously connected to but distinct from an overarching cultural sphere. This requires the identification of multiple interrelated cultural constituents and the recognition of a kind of cultural lay…

  • Bronocice Funnel Beaker Vessel with Wagon Motif

Open Access•Sarunas Milisauska, Janusz Kruk et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Polona•2019

Excavations at the Polish site of Bronocice uncovered a vessel with a wagon motif in a late Funnel Beaker pit that dates to 3405 BC and also contained animal bones, flint artefacts and potsherds typical of the Funnel Beaker phase BR III. This article introduces the Bronocice site, provides an overview of the Bronocice vessel and its imagery, and presents some of the significant interpretations of the vessel. It also briefly considers the issues i…

  • Neolithic Textile Production Artifacts at Bronocice

Open Access•Marie-Lorraine Pipes, Janusz Kruk et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2018

The first evidence for fiber and textile production appeared around 5500 BC with the advent of Linear Pottery culture in southeastern Poland. By the fourth millennium BC, agricultural societies were well established and becoming increasingly sophisticated. Around 3700 BC the settlement of Bronocice began to develop economically, politically and technologically. From that time until the settlement collapsed around 2900 BC fiber and cloth productio…

  • Variability in 4th Millennium BC Livestock Management Practices in the Bronocice Region, Southeastern Poland

Open Access•Marie-Lorraine Pipes, Janusz Kruk et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2017

Livestock management systems are complex refl ections of economic practices. During the mid-fourth millennium BC in southeastern Poland distinct economic activities were revealed using portable x-ray fl uorescence (herein pXRF). Portable X-ray fl uorescence was used to measure elemental levels of strontium in the teeth of cattle, sheep and pig. Strontium is fi xed in dental enamel after a tooth has formed. By comparing strontium in teeth of diffe…

  • What does the bell-distribution hide? Spatial behavior and demographic development of the Funnel Beaker culture populations in Bronocice region, Poland

Open Access•A Diachenko, Janusz Kruk et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2016•Citada por: 1

Spatial archaeology usually links population estimates to settlement functions. Normal (Gaussian) or binomial distributions of a variable reflecting population values are used for groups of sites identified as seasonal occupations, hamlets, villages, centers etc. However, using this approach the demographic development remains hidden in bell-curves. To solve this issue we propose a research procedure that considers spatio-demographic development …

  • The earliest evidence of wheeled vehicles in Europe and the Near East

Open Access•Jan Bakker, Jan Albert Bakker et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1999•Citada por: 11•Referências: 8

The earliest evidence of wheeled vehicles dates to the Funnel Beaker (TRB) culture in Europe and the Late Uruk period in the Near East. Results of excavations and 14 C determinations from Poland, Germany, Iraq, Syria and Turkey suggest that the appearance of wheeled vehicles was contemporary in Europe and the Near East

  • Utilization of cattle for traction during the later Neolithic in southeastern Poland

Open Access•Sarunas Milisauska, Sarunas Milisauskas et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1991•Citada por: 15•Referências: 2

The site of Bronocice provides a valuable chance to explore aspects of economic changes in the later Neolithic of central Europe, thanks to its large sample of animal bones, and to a remarkable trace of haulage on a horn-core
