Ethnic Disparities in Access to Care in Post-Apartheid South Africa
Objectives. We investigated ethnic disparities in obtaining medical care among the 4 major ethnic groups (Blacks, Whites, Coloreds [i.e., those of mixed race], and Asians) in post-apartheid South Africa. This study explores community beliefs regarding the hierarchy of resort for social support across different contexts. A sample of community members (n=60) in a small southwestern city was asked to rank-order their preferences for assistance for eight specific scenarios.
