  • Holocene Paleoenvironmental Changes in the Lower Mahi Basin, Western India

Open Access•Sheela Kusumgar, Rachna Raj et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1997•Referências: 5

Evidence of paleoenvironmental changes during the Holocene from the Lower Mahi basin of Western India have been documented. The unpaired S 2 surface all along the estuarine zone of the Mahi basin has been identified as an uplifted marine terrace. The terraces have preserved in their lithosections fairly distinct horizons of grayish brown clays rich in marine microfauna. The intervening silty-sand horizons are indicative of freshwater origin. The …

  • A Comparative Study of Monsoonal and Non-Monsoonal Himalayan Lakes, India

    Open Access•Sheela Kusumgar, D P Agrawal et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1995•Referências: 6

Sedimentological, mineral magnetic and carbon isotopic studies on cores from Mansar Lake in the Jammu area provide paleomonsoonal history dating back to 580 bc. From ca. 580 bc to ad 300, the region experienced precipitation similar to the present, whereas from ad 300 to 1400, the monsoon was relatively subdued. A small excursion ca. ad 1100 suggests an effect of medieval warming. Studies in the Kumaon region did not provide a proper precipitatio…

  • Cist burials of the Kumaun Himalayas

Open Access•D P Agrawal, Jeewan Kharakwal et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1995•Citada por: 3

In the Kumaun region of Uttar Pradesh, India, on the southern slopes of the Himalaya are cist burials, as well as megalithic monuments. Radiocarbon dates from the cists now hint at their going back to the 3rd millennium BC, and linguistic affinities would associate them with early Indo-European migrations into the western and central Himalaya regions

  • Lake Sediments from the Kashmir Himalayas

    Open Access•Sheela Kusumgar, D P Agrawal et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1992•Citada por: 3•Referências: 8

We have measured 14 C, 210 Pb and 137 Cs profiles in two representative cores from Manasbal Lake, Kashmir, India. The sedimentation rate derived from 210 Pb and 137 Cs in the upper part of the core is in the range of 3.4 to 5.5 mm yr −1 . In contrast, 14 C ages show an inversion at depths >20 cm. These results are attributed to the erosion of the ubiquitous 10–20-m-thick loess mantle, based on the similarity of 14 C ages of the inversion layer in…

    Open Access•D P Agrawal, Sheela Kusumgar et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1991•Citada por: 1•Referências: 3

We present here dates for archaeological and geological samples. The dates are based on τ 1/2 = 5568 years, using 1950 as the base year. The modern standard was 95% of activity of NBS oxalic acid. Samples were pretreated, prepared by methane synthesis and counted in a proportional counter. The detailed procedure has been described earlier (Agrawal, Gupta & Kusumgar 1971). We reported minor changes in previous date lists. Quoted errors are based o…

    Sheela Kusumgar, D P Agrawal et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1989•Citada por: 1

This study was carried out to determine time controls of erosion and sedimentation in the catchment area and lakes of the Naini Tal district in the Kumaon Himalayas. We present here our preliminary data from five lakes, Beon Tal, Garud Tal, Sukha Tal, Bhim Tal and Kamal Tal (Naukuchia Tal). A number of 14 C dates are now available to estimate the sedimentation rate of the five lakes and magnetic susceptibility (x L ; x fd ) variation to determine…

The …
